Prompt #1: Summarize your results and any particular “aha moments” that you may have had

when
working through the “interests-based” assessments on the AzCIS website. What particular career
clusters stuck out to you? With respect to the interest profiler, how did your interests score in the
artistic / conventional / enterprising / investigative / realistic / social categories? How could you use
interests-based assessments to help move your career and your life forward? If you have taken any
other interests-based assessments in the past, please comment on those, and any relevant connections
to the AzCIS assessments.

My carrier cluster top 4 are

Science, technology, mathematics, engineering: 14

Architecture and construction: 12

Manufacturing: 12

Transportation, distribution, and logistics: 12

The area career areas that I find the most satisfying are the construction and manufacturing. I think that
I like these the best because I have the most experience in these areas having spent close to 17 years
working in these two areas in one way or another.

I think that these types of assessments are important to our own personal growth. They give us areas
that we may not realize that we might find work satisfaction. These assessments can also give us areas
that we need to improve, or the y can give us areas that we are strong and therefore should use more
often as we lead others.

Prompt #2: Summarize your results and any particular “aha moments” that you may have had when
working through the “skills / work values-based” assessments through the AzCIS website. What are your
top skills? Are these the skills that you highlighted in your e-portfolio (from OGL 481 Pro-Seminar I)?
Comment on any differences there, and how you might improve, or add to, the skills section of your e-
portfolio based on this new perspective. Also, be sure to comment on your Holland

Personality Types scores, and how your skills and interests compared in that regard. How could you use
skills-based assessments to help move your career and your life forward? If you have taken any other
skills-based assessments in the past, please comment on those, and any relevant connections to the
AzCIS assessments.

My scores were

Realistic: 9

Enterprising: 8

Investigative: 7
Social: 5

Conventional: 4

Artistic: 1

There were no major discoveries for me in this assessment I have known for a long time that I am not
artistic. But what I like about taking these assessments is that every time you take one those areas that
are close in score can move up and down the scale just a little depending on your growth. I have taken
this Holland exam before and the realistic is not always at the top but artistic is always at the bottom.

While I did not directly reference these exact skill titles in my e- portfolio I feel that they do fit in to
some of what I put in. I think that Hard Worker/Attention to Detail relate closely to the realistic area as
the saying goes “anything worth doing is worth doing right.” (Hunter S Thompson)

Again, I feel that an understanding of what makes us do what we do and think what we think helps us to
become more able to use those skills in the future. I think that it is also important to have some idea of
what you are really good at and what type of work really makes you happy so that you have an idea of
how to reduce the stress of not being happy or satisfied at work.

Prompt #3: Discuss your primary and secondary career anchors. Any surprises? Make some
connections between your current work / life and your scores on the career anchors assessment. What
was your lowest scoring career anchor? Comment on your perceptions about that (and the career
anchors instrument, in general).

My scores on this evaluation landed me in the managerial competencies and pure challenge areas.

The things that stood out from the managerial is the need to not be really skilled in one area you as a
leader the need to be skilled in many areas like emotional analytical and interpersonal skills. While I will
be the first to tell you that I am not perfect at those three I do the best that I can. The area that I think
that I fall short the most is in the interpersonal skills. My wife recently gave me a lot of compliments in
this area, but I still feel like it is my weak area and that I need to work on I the most to be good at it.

As far as pure challenge there is no surprise there growing up the youngest of nine kids there was
always pressure to do and be better. That has fostered into almost a need to be better or faster than
others at doing things. And as the evaluation says the absence of a challenge is boring. I find myself
constantly trying to improve. And in situations that I can no longer be challenged I start to look for ways
to move on to the next challenge.

My lowest score was a tie between security, stability, organizational identity and sense of service
/dedication to a cause. While job security is important to me to a point, I think that the desire to find
satisfaction in what you do is more important and if you are not happy then it is time to move on. That
being said as a father of four I don’t think that I will be leaving any employment without a sure plan for
the future. As far as service to others and dedication to the cause I think that this was at the bottom for
me because no matter what the base me is not as concerned with others as much as I probably should
be and while I enjoy being with my kids and teaching them I have a hard time dealing with other
people’s kids.

I think that all of us have things that bring us more satisfaction than others and it is important to
understand that it is also important to understand that it is okay to not be like everyone else. It is the
diversity that makes things work. I also think that by knowing what we are good and bad as we can be
better prepared to compensate for the areas that we are not naturally drawn to.

Prompt #4: With respect to additional self-assessment instruments that you included (at least 3 from
either past courses or taken from the Assessment Links list below), write briefly about what you learned
about yourself (cite the new assessments you took, and briefly describe your findings, and how those
findings relate to how you see yourself in the world).

Throughout your personal or professional life, what have been the most useful self-assessments tools
for you, and why?

Socrates the super worker we did a work alignment assessment that I found useful because. It helps you
to understand the type of work that you want to do verse the work that you currently do and some
suggestions on how to reduce stress in your life if those are not in alignment.

This was helpful to me because my preferred style was that of a leader and the job that I am currently in
is mainly skilled trade basically the exact opposite of what makes me happy, so I learned some ways to
reduce stress and make the miss alignment not as bad.

Another assessment that I have taken was in ogl 220 which was a conflict style inventory and the scores
that I got in that were the opposite of what I thought that I was going to get. I had never before thought
of myself as a peace keeper kind of person, but I scored high in that and lowest in confrontation.
Because of this assessment I have taken as many opportunities as possible to try and confront conflict
head on. It was a long road and I still am not as comfortable with it as ai am with being a peace keeper,
but I am getting better at having the hard talks.

Another assessment that has had an impact on my life was from ogl 300 in which I took a skills
assessment I scored high in technical and conceptual skills but low in human skills. In other words, I do
no always play well with others. this is something that has been interesting to learn about as I find
myself often rubbing people the wrong way because I am often more concerned with getting the project
done than I am with people’s feelings which I find strange considering that I also like to be a peace
keeper. This assessment gave me some areas that I needed to work on because shutting people down
or making them feel like the work is more important than they are is never a good thing.
Prompt #5: Post e-portfolio link for review making sure it can be accessed freely or you may not receive
credit for this section.
