Abstract

The objective of the experiment is to determine the average and median values, the standard
deviation, and the relative standard deviation in the masses of 20 cent coins in a part A and for
part B is to provide experience in the correct use of the volumetric flask while the part C is to
provide experience in the correct use and proper reading of burette. In part A, the 5 of 20 cent
coins has been weighted at once by using analytical balance and removing one coin at a time
and the individual masses of coins has been obtained by difference. Then, the result has been
compared with the result of the 5 of 20 cents where has been weighted by individually. In part
B, the stock solution of NaCl has been prepared successfully into a 25 mL volumetric flask. In
part C, the burette has been used to measure the volume and it found average of each drop for
40 and 30 drops are close each other. In conclusion , all the rule and precaution has must be
followed for get a precious result and all the experiment part has been done successfully and
achieve the objective
Introduction

The purpose of this report is to expose the student on basic and appropriate methods in
Chemistry. Basic laboratory technique experiment is an important part in chemistry course
which required a good observation and utilization of right laboratory technique especially in
term of measurement. Measurements are fundamental in our everyday lives. From how beams
and trusses’ lengths should be, to the amount you add to neutralize a solution, it should be
accurate and precise. One of the most important measurements in chemical analyses is mass.
Basic laboratory technique also to teach the student how to use the instrument in the lab in
correct ways to get the precious value. In this experiment there are 3 part of experiment will
run out. The first part is the student will learn the proper way to use analytical balance which
is use the method of ‘weighing by difference’ to find the mass. An analytical balance (often
called a "lab balance") is a class of balance designed to measure small mass in the sub-
milligram range. The measuring pan of an analytical balance (0.1 mg or better) is inside a
transparent enclosure with doors so that dust does not collect and so any air currents in the
room do not affect the balance's operation. The second part is experience in the correct use of
the volumetric flask when to prepare the stock solution while the third part is to provide
experience in the correct use and proper reading of burette.

RESULT
DISCUSSION

From the result from part A, the resulting show that the value of individual mass weighing by
difference obtained is differ with small value compared to the individual weighing. It found
that the value of RSD for individually weighing is 0.44% same goes with the differences by
weighing method. To be clear, both method give same RSD value which is 0.44% which
means, both method is given same precious measurement and the smaller the calculated relative
standard deviation is, the more precise the measurement is. For experiment part B, the stock of
NaCl solution has been prepared at 25 mL and it found that the molarity of the solution is 6.848
× 10-5 mol/mL and has been transferred with successfully at the graduated mark of volumetric
mark For the part C, it found that the volume after 30 drops is 1.6 mL and the average volume
of one drop is 0.0533 mL while the volume for the next 40 drops is 2.1 and the average volume
of one drops is 0.0525 mL As to prove the accuracy the result, the comparison has been made
where both are given average close at to each other which is its indicate that the burette is used
in the correct ways.
CONCLUSION

The experiment in overall proved that all measurement tools in the lab is must use in correct
ways to get precious result. For example, is analytical balance which is used to measure the
weight and give more precision in its measurement by having three to four significant figures,
sometimes even five thousand in decimal places. The balance is placed on a laboratory setting,
which is it sensitive to air pressure and resistance. In order to get precious value reading for
burette, use a burette reading card to estimate the readings. As observed throughout the whole
experiment, this is why the following precautions that were stated in the pre laboratory guide
must be followed for getting better results. RSD, or the coefficient of variation of the data set.
We got a low percentage, which generally means that we got a very high precision rate.
Overall, mass measurements using an analytical balance should be: significant in displaying
results, can handle a considerable amount of weight (a good capacity) and by following certain
precautions to ensure accuracy and precision in measurements.
