Justilication for Evaluation:

Mr. Werkheiser planned effective American government lessons for high school students at Hamburg High
School. Theodore created both unit and daily lesson plans. Lesson plans were handed in to his cooperating
teacher and supervisor before they were taught. His content knowledge was good. While Theodore followed the
lead of his cooperating teacher and initially borrowed many materials from him, he grew into his own teaching
style and added some of his own ideas to the established curriculum. I was most impressed that he rose to the
challenge of teaching current events in a highly emotionally charged political climate. As a history major, this
area of the social studies curriculum is out of his expertise. His hard work in this area leads me to believe that
he is capable of teaching many topics outside of history.

Justification for Evaluation:

Mr. Werkheiser developed a comfortable stride about half way through this placement. Teddy developed a very
good rapport with his students. He balanced friendliness with an air of authority, establishing an effective
management style in this rural high school setting. Mr. Werkheiser had high expectations for his students. He
treated all students equally and frequently counseled students individually. Theodore recognized students were
the few students behaving poorly and applied different management strategies to control their off-task
behaviors. Lessons began in a timely manner and moved at an appropriate pace. I was most impressed that Mr.
Werkheiser did a great job as the lead teacher on a field trip to Philadelphia. He loaded and unloaded students
and monitored behavior. Ted is very relaxed and purposeful in his approach to teaching high school students.
