The Kid History Project was a very enjoyable “on hands” assignment. We had to think,
plan, write, and execute all the scenes to make up our movie. Everyone in our group contributed
in some kind of way; weather that be filming, acting, editing, or writing everyone did something.
I myself contributed to the project by filming scenes and sometimes acting when needed. In the
final product, many scenes wouldn’t be there if not for me. You can also watch me act for about
fifteen seconds in the film. I am very proud to have been apart of this project, personally I love
movies. So I find great pleasure in being apart of any movie, weather it be directing or acting.
During the making of the film we all had something to work on, as already stated
everyone had a job. Although we weren’t given a specific job by our teacher, we assigned
ourselves tasks we were able to achieve. For example only one of us in my group was more
skilled in editing; so we had this individual do most of the editing for the film. For someone who
is light on his feet for anything, they would be on “call”. This just means that if something
needed to be done at the moment, they would be asked to do the task. Even though this may
seem like a very “Willy Wonka” type of schedule, it actually worked and helped me be
successful. How does this make me successful, because it was really used to see what certain
end of the hallway, so the visitors had to go through the Senior, Junior, and Sophomore wings to
get to us. Or maybe it was just that there wasn’t as many visitors as we were told there would be,
who nows. As for many of these (similar) events I have been apart of, I wasn't nervous. Honestly
I’m never nervous for these kind of exhibitions because I was taught to always improvise, adapt,
and overcome. Plus the only conversations I had with people at the event, was asking them if
they would like to watch a movie and opening the door for them.
Here is my rant to any future students that will be participating in this project. Do not be
overcome by laziness. Not that you can’t be lazy, because at some point you will feel that way,
just don’t become a sloth. Always have a plan on what to do each day, even if the plan is
humdrum; it is much better than having no idea on what to do. When the green screen goes up (if
supplied by your teacher) be the first one to use it for as many scenes as possible. Or else you
will end up waiting the entire class period to film one scene. Finally try to get yourself involved
as much as you can. The more you engage in your project, the faster it will be to get results and
feedback. If you take all of this into consideration, you just might get somewhere.
