Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students get to pick their topic that they want to write on as far as why physical education is important. They
will also get to be as creative with their podcast as they want to be. They can include music, sound effects,
different voices, interviews with people or anything they can think of.
Lesson idea implementation:
During this lesson the teacher will go over why physical activity and health are important things to learn. The
students will then be given an assignment to research why it is important to continue to teach health and
physical education. The teacher will give an example of what the podcast should be like. They will find some
topic that helps defend the fact of why we need health and physical education. This could be for social
reasons, skills reasons, to learn how to live a healthier life or any other reason they can find. The students will
work on this for the last twenty to thirty minutes of class and then if they do not finish, they will complete the
assignment for homework. They will write a script as well as create a podcast entry and submit it. The
learning will be assessed by the information they include in their podcast.

The teacher will walk around while the students are looking up and writing their information and recording
their podcasts. At the end of this lesson I will have the students who want to share their podcasts share them
and then have the class talk about them. I will give the students feedback through notes I write throughout
their podcast.

Importance of technology: The reason using an audio recording tool is critical to the project is because you
cannot have a podcast without audio. You need to be able to hear what the person is saying and they tone
they are saying it in. If you did not have an audio recording tool you would not be able to complete the
project fully. You would lose the emotion behind the voice of the person giving the presentation. The
students will need a technology to get and add music to their podcast.
Inspiration (optional): I got this topic from a discussion we had in Professor St. Pierre’s (a teacher at
Kennesaw State University) class. We had to advocate for Health and Physical education and write a letter
explaining why it is important.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
Some issues that come with podcasts as far as internet safety for one include the fact that students can say
anything they want on their podcast and then publish them for the world to see. It is important that students
are careful about what they say. The teacher needs to have a look at the podcast before they submit it
publically in order to keep the students safe. They also need to be aware of the websites the students are
using. The teachers need to be careful of the information the students are looking at and hearing while they
are doing their research. They can help do this by giving them certain websites to look on. The students need
to make sure to follow the internet safety and student privacy rules and policies. The teachers need to make
sure they are doing the same. The teachers can create a private place for the students to submit their
assignment where everyone in the world cannot see it.
Reflective Practice:
I really like the activity and having students create their own podcast on why physical education and health
are important topics to learn in school. It is a good beginning activity for the students so they start with a
good mindset and have an idea of the importance of physical education. This might help them participate
more. After they complete this lesson and podcast assignment the teacher will continue to talk about why
physical activity is important as well as why it is important to make healthy choices. They will talk about
healthy eating habits, benefits of getting enough physical activity and keeping up an active lifestyle. The
students will be able share with each other and talk about their opinions on the topic. They can also comment
on each other’s podcasts as well.
