ATTACHMENT
The curriculum of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Financial Markets) has been designed to
expose the participants not only to the theoretical concepts but also application of these concepts in
industry. Towards this, the course participants of PGDM (Financial Markets) 2017-18 were taken to
International Attachment from 16-20 April 2018 to Singapore, which is one of the most advanced service
oriented country especially in the field of Capital Markets & associated Financial Services.

Thomson Reuters. Thomson Reuters Corpn. is a Canadian multinational mass media


and information firm. The participants were given detailed insight into the methodology of
voluminous data analysis & its importance in the financial sector. The session was conducted
jointly by Ms. Daniela & Mr. Radha Krishan.

SBI Singapore. At SBI Singapore Mr. Soma Shankara Prasad and his team conducted the
session wherein role of SBI Singapore, need for going global, regulatory tightening and
participation in debt market was discussed in detail.

Singapore Exchange (SGX). The Session was conducted by Mr. Michel Syen, Vice President
Singapore Exchange. The speaker covered in detail the evolution & growth of Singapore
Exchange. As Asia’s most international, multi-asset exchange, SGX provides listing, trading,
clearing, settlement, depository and data services, with about 40% of listed companies and
75% of listed bonds originating outside of Singapore. The importance of technology with
special reference to Fintech and its linkage with capital markets was also touched upon.

Opportunities in Singapore Financial Sector. Mr. Srinivasan Venkat, President & Global Head
Finance, OLAM conducted the session. He covered in detail the evolution of Singapore into
a financial hub. He emphasized on the need to be technically skilled so as to be a part of the
financial system and impressed upon the participants to enhance their skill sets based on the
industry requirement.

M & A Activity with Emphasis on Turn Around Strategy for Corporates. Prof. Nilanjan Sen,
Associate Dean, Singapore Technological University conducted the session. The speaker
covered the intricacies of inorganic growth amongst corporates. He also covered the
important aspects which play a critical role in the turn around of an adversely performing
Company.

Citi Bank Singapore. Mr.Nirav Parikh, Director - Futures, Clearing and Collateral, Citi Bank,
conducted the session. The speaker enlightened the participants about Commodity
Derivatives. He covered in detail about the origin and growth of Commodity Market over the
decades. He emphasized on the need for continuous evolution & development of products
in the Commodity Derivatives Segment which provides an opportunity to cover risk. This was
followed by a deliberation on the scope for development of Commodity Derivatives market of
India.

One Belt One Road Programme (OBOR) of China & Opportunities For Honkong Exchange.
Mr Dominic Chi, Vice President Hongkong Exchange covered the OBOR Programme of China
which would connect China to Europe, Asia & Middle East. This would require large quantum of
investment for development of infrastructure. Honkong Exchange sees this as an opportunity
wherein it would be able to provide the most conducive environment for all products whether
equity or debt based. During the interactive session the challenges posed by other International
Centers viz. Gift, Labuan, Singapore, etc were also discussed.

PWC FINTECH. Mr Ramesh Raghvan, PWC covered the importance of FINTECH in the field
of capital markets, banking, insurance, investments, fund transfer, etc. He emphasized that in
the times to come automation in the Financial Sector will not only achieve efficiency but also
reduce the time cycle in rendering the desired services. He impressed upon the batch to acquire
skills which are critical in backdrop of automation in the financial world.

Singapore Taxation System. Mr Anuj Kagalwal PWC & Mr Navin Amarnani, Senior Vice
President, International Business, Edelweiss International conducted the session. The need for
creating a conducive business environment & consistency in policies viz, taxation, regulatory
aspects, etc are critical to evolve a country into a favorite investment destination was
emphasised.

SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE BOARD OF INDIA (SEBI)

Participants of PGDM (Financial Markets), 2018-19 visited Securities Exchange Board of


India on 27 November 2018. The session on SEBI & Securities Markets was conducted by
Shri Jeevan J S, General Manager, SEBI. He focused upon the powers bestowed upon SEBI
under Sec.11 of the SEBI regulations. In the session, participants were given information
of the compliance structure and the role of various departments of SEBI and how they are
interlinked. The role of SEBI in investor protection, important Regulations and Rules related to
Insider Trading, Front Running, Corporate & Municipal Bonds and the importance of Corporate
Governance and Compliance were also covered during the deliberations.

RESERVE BANK OF INDIA (RBI)

Participants of PGDM (Financial Markets), 2018-19 visited RBI on 27 November 2018. The
participants got the privilege to have an interactive session with Senior Managers from the
Reserve Bank of India. The batch was addressed by officials of RBI representing Department
of Monetary Policy (MPD), Department of Banking Regulation (DBR) and Financial Markets
Regulation Department (FMRD). Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Chief General Manager, Human
Resource Management Department, Chaired the Session. Shri A.K. Mitra, Director, MPD
spoke extensively on the Monetary Policy Committee, its constituents and functioning.
Dr. S.P.Mohanty, GM, (DBR) focused on the current NPA situation in the banking sector along
with the Basel III norms. Shri Manoj Kumar, DGM, FMRD deliberated on various markets
that RBI deals with such as Funding Market, Secondary Market and Forex Market.

BOMBAY STOCK EXCHANGE

Participants of PGDM (Financial Markets), 2018-19 visited Bombay Stock Exchange on


27 November 2018. The batch was welcomed by Mr. Kalpit Kshatriya, Associate Manager
(Corporate Communication). Mr. Anand Chari, Assistant General Manager, BSE-SME Platform
gave insights on the working of BSE-SME Platform and the market behaviour & thought process
of SMEs. Mr. Manish Madan introduced the participants to BSE STAR MF platform and it’s
potential.

INDIA INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE & INDIA INTERNATIONAL


CLEARING CORPORATION (INDIA INX & INDIA CCL)
Participants of PGDM (Financial Markets), 2018-19 visited India International Exchange
(INDIA INX) on 26 November 2018. The session was headed by Mr. Arup Mukherjee, MD
& CEO, India International Clearing Corporation (IFSC) Limited. Various topics on the value
proposition of India INX encompassing – Diversified Product Portfolio, Transparency and
round the clock market access, state of the art exchange trading platform were covered.
Mr. Vinod Ramachandran, Chief Risk & Regulatory Officer deliberated on major functions of
India ICC and the concept of unified regulator for IFSC, GIFT City. Mr. Pratap Chandiramani,
Product Head, INDIA INX spoke about the India INX advantages that are available in the form
of taxation, location and the emerging markets. He also delved upon Masala Bonds and its
usage.

FIXED INCOME MONEY MARKET & DERIVATIVE ASSOCIATION (FIMMDA)

Participants of PGDM (Financial Markets), 2018-19 visited Fixed Income Money Market &
Derivative Association of India (FIMMDA) on 27 November 2018. Mr. Manas Sen, Vice President,
FIMMDA. & Mr. K. Boovendran, Dy. CEO, FIMMDA hosted the session. The session covered various
topics on fixed income securities, money market securities and G-Sec along with the formation,
purpose and functioning of FIMMDA.

BLOOMBERG

The batch visited Bloomberg Data Services (India) on the last day of Domestic attachment.
The batch was welcomed by Mr. Nitin Parmeshwar, Training Head. All the participants were
provided with hands on experience on individual system. A demonstration / usage of various
functionalities was given to the participants by Mr. Jay Janardhan from Financial Analytics. This
gave the participants better appreciation of the tools available for undertaking research in equity,
mutual funds, industry analysis, etc. On completion of the session, the batch was exposed to the
professional ethics and corporate work culture followed at Bloomberg.
