Instructions
1
1. You are provided with the following; a fresh Irish potato, knife or scalpel, distilled
water in a petri dish, 25% salt solution in another petri dish and a ruler.
i. Use the knife provided to peel off the Irish potato.
ii. Cut six slices of the potato of 2cm long by 0.5cm wide by 0.5cm thick .
iii. Place three slices in one petri dish with 25% salt solution and label it A.
iv. Place the other three slices in a second petri dish filled with distilled water and
label it B.
v. Let the two dishes to stand still for at least 20 minutes.
a) Measure the length of the slices in each dish and find average lengths.
Record the findings as in the table below. (4 marks)

3. You are provided with specimen marked M, scapel or knife and a ruler.
Make a longitudinal section of specimen M and use it to answer questions that
follow.
a) Draw the longitudinal section of specimen M exposing the cut area and label
stem and leaf on your diagram. (3 marks)

4. a. Sample of Amoeba were mounted on six slides with different concentration of
sodium chloride solution. The average number of times that contractile vacuoles
formation and emptied in 10 minutes was recorded as in the table below.
