Module 2
IBM Spectrum Accelerate
September 2018
Software Defined Storage allows customers to have a very efficient, flexible, agile, and scalable storage
environment. Customers can store their data on premise, off premise or delivered via a hybrid cloud
environment. All while helping them drive down storage related costs.
This certification exam focuses primarily on Spectrum Accelerate and it’s core features, functions, and
capabilities including: IBM XIV, FlashSystem A9000 and A9000R. This certification also covers the integration of
Spectrum Accelerate products with Spectrum Software and cloud services.
This module provides an overview of IBM Spectrum Accelerate and it’s underlying architecture that makes it
high-performing, highly scalable, resilient, and easy to manage.
This module is one in a series of self-learning modules designed and developed to help you prepare for the IBM
Grid Scale Cloud Storage V1 certification exam.
Key Capabilities
Enterprise cloud storage in minutes, leveraging commodity hardware

By it’s very design Spectrum Accelerate provides consistent and equal performance to all workloads
Sometimes business critical applications have to run alongside non-business critical ones.
If all resources are equally shared among all of the applications there may be unintended adverse
performance effects on the business critical workloads
Quality of Service (QoS) can address this issue by limiting performance resources of specific applications:
Limiting bandwidth
Limiting IOPs
Service classes can be defined by an administrator
The end result is that more resources are available for critical applications
