To the Parents of Jane Doe:

As you know, I have had the pleasure of teaching your child this school year and getting

to know them as a unique individual and learner. In addition to teaching, I am currently attending

Graduate School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This semester, I have been tasked with

further assessing and evaluating your child.

Jane is a very promising student, as she is fairly new to the United States and already has

a strong grasp of the English language. With that, I would love the opportunity to give her some

more detailed assessments that will further allow me to see where she is as an English Language

Learner.

There are approximately five assessments I would like to use to evaluate Jane. These

assessments will go into a variety of areas that involve Jane’s ability to read, write, speak, and

listen. These assessments will look into Jane’s speaking and listening skills, reading interests and

habits, spelling and writing capabilities, and her reading abilities. I feel that it will give me more

insight into Jane’s abilities and learning habits.

At the end of the assessment period, I feel that I will be more prepared to not only

customize lessons to cater to Jane’s abilities, but will also be a better educator from the process. I

ask your permission to further assess Jane and to have the opportunity to tailor my instruction to

her. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email at hallfk@nv.ccsd.net.

Sincerely,

Katherine Hallford
