ABOUT SESOTHO MEDIA AND DEVELOPMENT

SESOTHO MEDIA AND DEVELOPMENT(SM&D) is a non-profit organisation based in Maseru,

Lesotho. It operates countrywide and believes that communication processes need to be put at the
service of the poor in order to access information thus enabling Basotho to make informed decisions
about issues that affect their daily lives. SM&D has a long record of successfully implementing
programs reaching out to a wide range of audiences through facilitated film screenings.

LESOTHO FILM FESTIVAL

Lesotho Film Festival is an annual event. This year’s 6th edition of the festival will be held under the
theme “50 Years Of Independence”. Lesotho gained independence from British rule on 4th October
1966. It had been under British protection for 98 years since 1868. As part of our social responsibility
in the country, we are celebrating our independence through the camera lens. For three days films
from different local filmmakers will be screened to audiences. Some films that were produced in
previous years too, will be screeneed.

The Lesotho Film Festival (2016) will take place from the 03rd November-05th November 2016.
SM&D intends to make the Film Festival a national platform to view and review development
dialogues through the camera lenses of Basotho Film producers. SM&D believes that the Film
Festival is a breeding ground for development ideas and a good networking space for government,
corporate and community stakeholders.
