We will then talk about what a face is and where to find them, I will do the
same with the angles. Each slide will have a different shape and I will
rotate the shapes and have the student recount the angles and faces, this
will give them a chance to see the shapes from different views and see
that the angles and faces don’t change.

After learning about faces and angles and differentiating between

different shapes we will talk about where you can see these shapes in our
everyday lives.

Describe your planned To assess the student I will have a note sheet with each of the shapes we

together come up with 2 examples for the ones the student did not find.
When discussing the objects I will have the student explain why they chose
for example a cereal box for a rectangle (it has four sides and four right
angles). This will give me an idea of how much information they retained
from the lesson.

the items her room and she ended up finding a necklace with triangles on
the chain. We talked about things that could be examples of hexagons and
pentagons. I knew that these items would be harder to find but I was
curious to see if she had any or could list any examples. I noticed a soccer
ball in the background and we talked about how the shapes on the ball
were pentagons. I gave her some examples of hexagons (bolt tops,
honeycombs, and some bookshelves) since that was a tougher example to
find.

I asked her randomly how many angles and faces each shape had and as I
expected she struggled a bit with the hexagon. The triangle and
quadrilateral came pretty easily to her, which I expected, and she picked
up the cube and pentagon quickly.

List the key practices for I made sure to speak loud and clear when teaching the lesson and

was struggling finding her own or grasping the concept.

Before moving on to a new shape I asked her if she had any questions and
if it was a difficult shape, I reviewed key facts before moving on. I know
Madison from work so we were able to have fun with the lesson and it was
laid back and less pressure than if it were someone else. As we were
completing the assignment I would provide feedback on the items, I
thought it was a good example to have the jewelry box as her cube.
Although it was not a perfect cube it was a good example that was readily
available.

How was teaching from It was different because you weren’t able to be there with the student and
a distance different than make sure they were on task and focused. I think this lesson would have
teaching face to face? been easier face to face because maybe there were other objects I
(1-2 paragraphs). couldn’t see that could have explained a hexagon better or we could have
been side by side learning the shapes.

It was easier because you were able to be comfortable in your own room
and you didn’t have leave or disrupt other students if you had to blow your
nose or get up for paper or supplies.

What parts of your I think it worked well having the lesson on shapes because that isn’t a

What would you do I think next time I would send more materials ahead of time. I would have
differently the next time more note guides or examples for the student to use or not use. It’s hard
you get a chance to to know what will work and what won’t so I think having many different

could have sent examples of shapes or another note guide with more than
just the shapes we were talking about.
