SUPPLY SPECIFICATION STUDBOLTS, BOLTS GQ 10.112
AND NUTS IN “SUPER DUPLEX” UNS S32760 Rev. 1
Pag. 2 of 5

1. SCOPE

The object of the use of this product grade is to guarantee high mechanical properties in a steel with excellent corrosion
resisting features and good toughness. UNS S32760 is particularly used in offshore applications but for its generally
good performance in all conditions it is frequently used in less critical applications.

This specification covers the minimum requirements that BEA can satisfy in the supply of Super Duplex UNS S32760
bolting. More stringent requirements can be applied in case of particular applications; the application of these
conditions and the relevant testing level will be a matter of agreement with the customer.

2. CONDITIONS OF SUPPLY

BEA supplies UNS S32760 bolting in the following conditions:

- SOLUTION ANNEALED (type “BEA – SA”)

- SOLUTION ANNEALED AND AGE HARDENED (type “BEA – AH”)
- SOLUTION ANNEALED AND STRAIN HARDENED (type “BEA-SH” and type “BEA-LT”, for studbolts only)

3. THREAD ROLLING

In case of type “AH” thread rolling can be effected before or after the aging heat treatment, at the option of the
customer.

4. CHEMICAL ANALYSIS

Chemical analysis is as follows:

C Mn Si P S Cr Ni Mo Cu W N
Min 24,00 6,00 3,00 0,50 0,50 0,20
Max 0,030 1,00 1,00 0,030 0,010 26,00 8,00 4,00 1,00 1,00 0,30

PITTING RESISTANT EQUIVALENT : PRE n = %CR + 3,3 x %MO + 16 x %N>40

The chemical analysis indicated in BEA’s EN 10204-3.1.B certification derives from the certification of the steel mill.
BEA executes P.M.I. (Positive Material Identification) in accordance with internal procedure GQ 10.110.

Product analysis is executed when required by the contract.

5. MECHANICAL FEATURES

5.1 Studbolts, Hex Bolts and Cap Screws

The mechanical features guaranteed by BEA are as follows:

Tensile

Type DIA UTS YS 0.2% E R. of A. HB

mm. MPa MPa % %

BEA-AH 66-100 >795 >655 >16 >50 <302
BEA-SH&LT <50 >860 >720 >16 >50 <321
*** *** *** *** *** *** ***
BEA-SA ALL >750 >550 >25 >50 --------

Tensile testing is executed with a sampling of 1 per each lot; a lot is defined as follows:

- Same heat
- Same diameter
- Same heat treatment batch
- Max weight (SA condition):

a) Kg 780 for diameters < 30 mm.

b) Kg 2000 for diameters > 30 mm. and < or = to 45 mm.
c) Kg 2700 for diameters > 45 mm. and < or = to 65 mm.
d) Every 100 pieces for diameters > 65 mm.

- Max weight (AH condition): 800 Kg

5.2 Nuts

Proof Load and Hardness

This is applicable to nuts, which normally are produced by hot forging. The following are the guaranteed results:

Type DIAMETER HB PROOF LOAD (*)

BEA-AH < or = 38 mm. 248-352 1 or 2
BEA-SA < or = 38 mm. 248-352 1 or 2

Type DIAMETER HB
BEA-AH > 38 mm. 212-352
BEA-SA > 38 mm. 212-352

(*)
1 = heavy series nuts (proof load based on load of 1205 Mpa – as per ASTM A194 2H)
2 = normal series nuts (proof load based on load of 1035 Mpa – as per ASTM A194 2H)

The sampling for the proof load test is as follows:

Pieces per lot No of tests

< or = 800 1
801-8000 2
> 8000 5

A lot is defined as “same heat, same diameter, same heat treatment batch”.

NOTE: if specifically required by the customer, the proof load test can be replaced by tensile testing; in this case the
specimens for testing derive from base material bar samples of the same heat as that used to produce the nuts and that
are subjected to the same heat treatment together.

5.3 Impact testing (all products)

UNS S32760 is not normally used for low temperature service, so this is rarely an essential requirement for this
material grade, and is therefore when required by the customer a supplementary requirement.

However BEA offers a low temperature type (LT) for these requirements; additionally (as a demonstration of the
toughness of the steel and its processing) impact values that meet as a minimum the requirements of ASTM A350/LF2
for types AH and SH. Type SA for its very nature possesses high toughness values.

Minimum values guarantees by BEA

Type Temperature Average Value Minimum Value

BEA – SA - 50 °C > 60 J 42 J
BEA – AH & SH - 50 °C > 20 J 16 J
BEA - LT - 101°C > 27 J 20 J

6. FERRITE AND MICROGRAPHIC EXAMINATION

All raw material used by BEA has a ferrite percentage between 45 and 55% . This measurement is made in accordance
with ASTM E 562.

BEA guarantees the absence of sigma phases that are harmful to toughness and corrosion resistance in its UNS S32760
bolting. If specifically required by the customer, a 500x micrographic examination is executed to determine the above.

Frequency of sampling for micrographic examinations is one per heat/heat treatment batch.

7. CORROSION

All bolting produced by BEA in UNS S32760 material is capable of guaranteeing conformity with corrosion testing in
accordance with ASTM G48A for 48 hours at + 40° C. with the following results:

- Total absence of pitting

- Loss weight < or = to 1 gm/m2

Frequency of testing is as per micrographic examination.

8. SURFACE CONDITION

Studbolts and engineers studs are normally supplied in the “as-treated” appearance. Forged products (hex
bolts/capscrews and nuts) are normally supplied in the black “as-forged” condition. When specifically required by the
customer, BEA supplies UNS S32760 bolting in the pickled condition.

9. MARKING

Standard marking on the pieces includes as a minimum the following:

9.1 Studbolts, Engineers studs

a) Type BEA-SA - Manufacturer logo (B or BEA) plus 3276

b) Type BEA-AH - Manufacturer logo (B) plus AH plus 3276
c) Type BEA-SH - Manufacturer logo (B) plus SH plus 3276
d) Type BEA-LT - Manufacturer logo (B) plus LT plus 3276
