At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:


1. define antecedent and pronoun,
2. identify antecedent and pronoun in a sentence,
3. construct sentences following the pronoun-antecedent agreement, and
4. give the importance of pronoun and antecedent agreement in a sentence.

antecedent agreement, we are going to
discuss what is antecedent and pronoun.
Kindly Read. o The antecedent of a pronoun is the word
or group of words to which the pronoun
refers. Antecedent (from Latin ante-,
“before” + cedere “to yield”) has the
meaning “the first part of the statement.
Pronoun is a word that substitutes for a
noun.
o I have a short clip of pronoun and
antecedent agreement. Please be quiet
and listen carefully. (student watch the video clip)

o In the video the first sentence used is,

Antecedent = Sally
Pronoun = She
Sally is a girl that match and agree

examples of a sentence with antecedent
and pronoun, using the picture I showed u

o Jane and her are both singular and
feminine

masculine
 The singular pronoun agrees with the
singular antecedent.
 The plural pronoun agrees with the plural
antecedent.
 The pronoun is masculine (he, his, him)
when the antecedent is masculine, and
feminine (she, her, hers) when the
antecedent is feminine, and neutral (it, its)
when the antecedent has no gender
association. Look on the pronoun chart.

o A singular pronoun is used to refer to two


or more singular antecedents joined by or
or nor.
A plural pronoun is used with two or more
plural antecedents joined by or or nor.
