“ONLY A MATTER OF TIME” Comprehending Time History Analysis

(THA) and Non-Linear Dynamic Analysis (NLDA) 1st ISSEP Technical

Conference, April 20-21,2018, Novotel Hotel, Quezon City

Dr. Rhommel N. Grutas, Ph.D.

Senior Science Research Specialist
Head, Earthquake Engineering and Strong Motion Section
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS)
▪To compare the different design
response spectral computations from
different codes
▪Status and performance of the
current NSCP 2015 code and if we are
ready to adapt to International
Building Code (IBC) 2012-2016.
▪ Actual Spectra not used in design
▪ Rough in shape
▪ Specific to ground motion

▪ Represents many Earthquakes

▪ Smooth shape
▪ Guidelines for calculation in building
codes

▪ With the current data, we can really adapt in the
Philippines the IBC 2012 and ASCE 7-10 seismic
design with the Design response spectrum using
Philippine data.
