(President of IAGI – Indonesian Association of Geologist)

According to demography experts, the number of Indonesia's demographic reach about 400 million by
2050-if the population growth of 1.48 percent per year sustained-Indonesia may displace the United
States now ranks third after China and India-with a population of 325 million, thanks to the family
planning programs are run. China and India with their population of 1.3 billion and 1.1 billion, is likely to
remain at the top of the current inhabitants of planet Earth has reached 9850 million (nearly 10 billion)
that year.

With the fourth largest population in the world, Indonesia also get a bonus amount of its workforce
demographics where more than 50% of the total population. The main challenge for Indonesia is to
provide the main raw material (including natural resources and energy) to make them work.

Shale gas in Indonesia only is started about 5 years ago, while the time required developing oil and
conventional gas takes up to 30 years. It is a BIG challenge for Indonesia to catch up in the development
of shale gas field to produce.

Shale gas in the United States developed in the Mesozoic to Paleozoic shale layers are deposited on the
marine environment, while the productive shale source rock in western Indonesia, especially in source
rocks deposited in non-marine environments, lacustrine and delta. This shows that Indonesia needs a
very special individual and specific to conditions in Indonesia.

With demand for energy will increase in 2030 and beyond one of the most important things that must
be considered by Indonesia is prioritizing the exploration and research and think for allocation to
domestic energy needs rather than for export. The fiscal term would be important on thinking the
domestic production allocation than production split.
