ACTIVITY PREP #4 – Can You Create Value!

Complete your One-Sentence Value Proposition (replace the text that’s NOT bolded):

Our app help(s) tattoo artists and clients who want to offer or receive tattoo services by reducing the
time and research put into finding an artist and allowing them to have multiple options in one app unlike
using word of mouth or social media apps like Instagram.

Gather evidence that your value proposition addresses real jobs, pains, and gains AND is better than
alternative solutions. Provide the following four types of evidence supporting (or NOT supporting) your
current thinking about your value proposition:

● Briefly describe a data-driven insight derived from the UCF Library’s IBIS World database or other
credible resource related to your customer, changing preferences, frustrations, or competition that
supports your continued interest in your value proposition.

This industry does not have any major companies or market shares which means there is a good
opportunity to bring all these small companies together in one place. I see my app being used
by many of these artists and companies.
● Briefly describe ANOTHER data-driven insight derived from the UCF Library’s IBIS World database or
other credible resource related to your customer, changing preferences, frustrations, or competition
that supports your continued interest in your value proposition.

From IBIS world I looked up the Industry trend for tattoo artists. The industry has good outlook with
continued growth. This makes me want to continue my interest in the industry with creating an
app for artists and customers.

● Explain your problem to 5 people (ideally, these would be potential customers but for the purposes of
this assignment you can speak to anyone). Ask them:

● Have you ever had this problem?

● How important do you think this problem is to people who experience it?
● What would you do if you experienced this problem?

What did you learn from their responses? Type 3-5 sentences characterizing their responses, including
illustrative examples of statements made by people you interviewed:
I learned that this problem arises often for people new to tattoos and for people who have moved to new
areas. They are unfamiliar with the artists around them and often use word of mouth to find new artists they
want to work with. For example, Alyssa stated that she often gets tattoos with her friends and uses the artists
they recommend to her and they often have had work done previously by the same artist.

● After you are done discussing the problem you are addressing, explain your solution to the same 5
people and ask them:

1. Do you think this solution would solve the problem we just discussed?
2. Do you think this solution would be more helpful than currently available alternatives?
3. Would you be interested in buying this solution?
4. If they say “no”, ask “Why not?” - If they say “yes”, ask “How much would you be willing to
pay?”

What did you learn from their responses? Type 3-5 sentences characterizing their responses,
including illustrative examples of statements made by people you interviewed:

When discussing my app the typical response was positive. They liked that it brought together the
tattoo community all in one place. It allows them to talk to people who have similar interests and that
may like the same type of work or artists. For example, Natalie stated that she would use the app to
come up with ideas for new tattoos and possible work with a new artist, she usually travels back to her
hometown for services but said the app would make her more open to using an artist where she lives
now in Orlando.

● List the three most important insights you’ve gained from your research:

1. That the industry is continuing to grow and has a good outlook.

2. I learned that potential customers are interested in the app and said they would use it.

3. I learned that there are no companies with large market shares which means there is great
potential to be that company.
