INTRODUCTION

⦿ Space in construction has become a large

requirement in the present scenario.
⦿ It should obligate as less as possible to present
scenario in construction industry.
⦿ Steel concrete composite construction is one of the
possible solutions of such requirement.
Importance of Composite Slab
with CutOut

⦿ Composite materials:- Obvious choice for civil

engineering industry.
⦿ Opening/cutout in the slab may have to be provided to
accommodate utilities.
⦿ Obstruction free erection in congested site situations can
be fulfilled.
⦿ Taking use of FE softwares for these type of situations
become necessary.

Objective of Present Work
⦿ Close look to the literature reveals to
the facts that: More analytical
investigation using FE software for the
slabs with cut-out is necessary to
strengthen the production and
designing procedure.
⦿ An effort is made to present a
parametric study of steel concrete
composite slab with cut-out to
recommend the most suitable option
among the available ones.
Methodology and Approach

⦿ Rectangular Steel-concrete composite slabs with different

placements of opening are analyzed using ANSYS.
⦿ The typical dimension of the slabs : (4.5 m X 3 m)
⦿ dimension of the rectangular cutout :( 1.8 m X 0.93 m)
⦿ ISMB300 is provided as stiffener around the outermost sides of
the slabs
⦿ Density of the composite slab material is 2400kg/m3
Methodology and Approach
(contd.)

⦿ Tensile ultimate strength 4.14 MPa

⦿ Compressive ultimate strength 35 MPa.
⦿ All the slabs are simply supported on all the four sides
⦿ Thickness of the slabs are: 110 mm
⦿ The load applied as pressure : 6.25 kN/m2 or 6250 Pa, direction:
Negative Z-axis.

Panel Type – IV 16.746 0 16.666 0

Conclusion
Comparing the results of stresses:-
⦿ From T-1, it is evident, stress generated in
panel type III with stiffener is the highest
one.
⦿Maximum stress occurs near the corner of
the support where the stress concentration
occurs.
⦿Interestingly, the same panel without
stiffener has result to lesser stress than the
stiffened panel, because the stiffness factor
of the steel stiffener is much higher than
the concrete plate. Thus, it absorbs the
load.
Conclusion (Contd.)
Comparing the results of strains:-
⦿As per T-2, the panel type III with
stiffener is suffering the maximum
strain compared to others.
⦿The least maximum strain is recorded
for panel type I with stiffener.
Conclusion (Contd.)
Comparing the results of deformations:-
⦿As per T-3, highest deflection is for
panel type II without stiffener.
⦿T-3 also shows that deflections of
without-stiffener-panels always higher
than its with-stiffener-counterparts.
Possible reason behind this is the
hogging deflections near the steel
stiffeners reduced the sagging
deflections near the openings in
stiffened panels.
Conclusion (Contd.)

➢ Results of above 3 tables shows:

❖ The most preferred panel type is type I panel, as far as the
stress, strain and total deflections is concerned.
❖ The symmetry of the opening has achieved the preference
among the available ones.
❖ In cases where symmetry of opening may not be achieved, panel
type IV may be the second preferred option, where the opening
is located near the shorter span, centrally.
❖ Provision of opening near the corner is the least preferred
option for such steel concrete composite panel.
