Biome: Temperate Forest

List your ideas for the following-

Plants you will include that will help reduce CO2 or purify the water:
One of the plants that absorbs some of the most CO2 is trees. Since our biome is a
temperate forest, we can take advantage of the amount of trees already growing in
our city. Projects to plant more trees and keep them healthy and safe from
deforestation will be taken into action. We will make sure that our city includes some
of the highest CO2 absorbing trees, like: pine, (Ponderosa, red, white and Hispaniolan
pines) as well as douglas fir trees.

Weather and temperatures for each season:

SPRING - March 20 to June 20
Spring is a rainy season in most parts of Ontario. Make sure you have an umbrella
and raincoat to stay dry. Average daytime temperatures are about 8°C in March
and rise slowly through the rest of the season. The nights are cool.
SUMMER - June 21 to September 21
July and August can be very hot and humid. In southern Ontario, daytime
temperatures are usually above 20°C and sometimes above 30°C.
FALL- September 22 to December 20
The weather gets cooler, the days get shorter, and the leaves on many trees change
colour and fall to the ground. The early part of fall is rainy in some parts of Ontario.
However, in some northern parts of Ontario, it may start snowing in October.
WINTER- December 21 to March 19
In winter it is cold and snows often. The temperature in most of the province is often
below 0°C, day and night. Temperatures can drop below -30°, which can be
dangerous if you do not have the right clothing. In the winter you should dress in
layers and wear a hat to stay warm.

Direction of the sun:
The sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

Water Source:
There are several water sources near our city. These include part of Nipigon Bay,
(which flows into Lake Superior) as well as part of Fire Hill Lake.

Resources used for building:
To construct our city, we will utilize wood from the trees in the surrounding forest.
We will make sure to plant new trees in place of the ones we cut down. We will also
use recycled materials are resources.

Energy Sources:
● Water (hydroelectricity, tidal)
● Solar
● Natural gas
● Wind

Waste Removal:
Human waste, landfills, animal manure, and food waste will be recycled by turning it
into a renewable natural gas, (RNG) also called biomethane gas through a process
called anaerobic digestion. We can also recycle waste to use in our crops/farming
for fertilizer.

Urban Planning (diagram of your plan for your community - on a separate piece
of paper.)

Animals-how will they blend in to the biome?
There are many animals in Ontario, Canada. Animals include: bears, deer, wolves,
foxes, and eagles.

Recycling-what will you recycle and what will you use it for?

Farming vegetables and animals:

Protection from severe weather - what will you do to protect your community
from natural disasters?

Transportation:

Access to major airport (where and how will they get out if needed?)

Homes (what do they look like, what are some special features to help with
reducing CO2?)

Businesses and Economy:

Medical Facilities:

Trade Agreements: What will you trade and what will you get in return?
