Genocide in Sudan
The purpose of this research paper is to show how the Holocaust and genocide in
Sudan are similar. People were treated less than humans and beaten until they are lifeless. The
dehumanization evident in the Holocaust and Sudan compare on the characteristics of the
treatment of people, the government’s role during the genocide, and the theme of
dehumanization in the genocide.
After tracking the theme of dehumanization for the two genocides, obvious similarities
and difference exist on the topic of treatment of people. In Elie Wiesel’s novel Night, he shares
“They passed me by like beaten dogs, with never a glance in my direction. They must have
envied me.” This quote depicts the brutal treatment of Jews because they were abused.
Moreover, this example is similar to the treatment of people in Sudan because research says
“The killings began in 2003, as the first genocide in the 21st century. Unrest and violence persist
today.” This proves the similarity with people in Darfur and the Jews were both beaten and
killed. As you can see, by comparing dehumanization in the Holocaust and Genocide in Sudan,
it becomes clear that they were being beaten and killed so it's a similarity of the Holocaust and
Genocide in Sudan (Darfur Genocide).
While tracking the theme of dehumanization for the two genocides, obvious similarities
and difference exist on the topic of the government's role during the genocide. In Elie Wiesel’s
novel Night, he shares “ this time the Lager apo refused to act as executioner. His voice
quivered as the rest of us, we were weeping”. This quote depicts the brutal genocide in Sudan
because the Lager which was and police officer felt bad that they had to kill this kid, he really
didn't want to do it but he had to do it. The west wants nothing to do with president Bashir or his
government, Diplomats will not me him, and there is little chance of Sudan getting its crippling
debt forgiven or US sanctions removed as long as he is in power (Darfur conflict: Sudan’s
bloody stalemate).
The theme of dehumanization within the Genocide proves that Sudan shows how brutally
the people were treated. Overall, similarities between the Holocaust and Sudan/Genocide
indicate how Darfur now faces the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, with 30,000 people
already killed and more than a million internally displaced. International aid agencies say that
even if humanitarian relief arrives now, 350,000 people may still die. People were killed in
Western Sudan men, women and children were beaten and raped. The people in Sudan wasn't
treated right even within Holocaust (Genocide in Darfur).
In conclusion the treatment of people, Government's role, and the theme of dehumanization
prove the similarities and differences between the dehumanization found in the Holocaust and
Sudan. This all still matters because these type of things are still happening around the world.
And this still matters because people should know that these people were treated brutally
because of their race. These things are currently still continuing, jews and also other races and
people are being threatened and abused.
