Competitor Article 2
Abstract
The three stocks I chose to follow were Canopy Growth Corp, VMware, and Forward air
freight. All three of these companies face competition in their respective industries, CGC in the
cannabis/hemp industry, VMware in the networking industry, and Forward Air Freight in the
freight industry. While they face many competitors, each grasping for a bigger percentage of the
market share, there are 3 companies who stand out from the rest. The first is CGC’s biggest
competitor, Aurora Cannabis. Second is a competitor to VMware and a titan in the industry,
While stocks in the cannabis industry have been volatile at best over the past few years,
Aurora Cannabis has seen continued growth, and with a steady increase in the number of patients
sold and the number of grams of material sold this company is predicted to see steady growth
and solid return on investment over the next few years. Aurora has even acted as a marijuana
hedge fund in recent years due to their investments reaching into the $700 million range
strengthening its grasp on the industry. This company is making big moves in the cannabis
industry and is sure to give Canopy Growth a run for its money. Aurora cannabis has more
recently rivaled Canopy in production due to its recent purchase of MedReleaf which can be seen
change, and explosive success or failure. On the forefront of this industry are VMware,
my second stock pick, and Microsoft which is one of VMware’s biggest competitors in
the virtualization sector. Microsoft is the technology giant that created Microsoft office,
Windows Operating System, etc, but they’re also a giant in the virtualization industry.
Microsoft’s HyperV software is their answer to VMware’s Hypervisor, which was then
Virtualization solution but since the release of the softwares VMware has been able to
develop their hypervisor in a way that poses significantly less risk to a virtualization
platform because of the way that it is coded more simply, requiring far less management
overhead and complexity, whereas with Microsoft, time is lost in their large more general
The Freight Industry is highlighted by a constant search for the most efficient processes
for moving mass quantities of freight in the smallest time frame possible at the lowest cost. Two
companies on the forefront of this industry are Forward Air Freight (FWRD) and CEVA
Logistics, a competitor to Forward Air. Both companies serve the automotive, health care,
industrial and aerospace and technology industries world wide. While both companies are quite
efficient, Forward air freight has over twice the market cap and is traded at almost 4 times the
price per share. Forward Air Freight is a much larger company and dominates CEVA in the
market.
