 About Uzbekistan

1.  Total area: 447, 400 km²
Area covered with water resources: 22,000 km² (4.9 %); 
Agricultural area: 222 600 km² (50.1%);
2.   Population– 27 500 000 (more than 100 nationalities);
3.   Administrative division: 12 regions and 1 autonomous republic;
4.   Gross domestic product (GDP) ‐ 9.5 % (2008).
5.   Natural recourses:

History of Chemical Industry:
1. Early 1930’s. Establishment of first chemical enterprise in Central Asia in
Kokand city.
2. 1940‐1970’s. Construction of main chemical enterprises in Uzbekistan.
3. October 1990. Establishment of Uzbek State Concern of Chemical Industry.
4. March 1994. Establishment of Uzbek Association of chemical industry 
enterprises “Uzhimprom”.
5. March 2001. Organization of “Uzkimyosanoat” State Joint Stock Company.
6. 1998‐2007. Construction  of new chemical manufacturing facilities on 
production of polyamide‐6  and tire cord, chlorine and caustic soda, cotton 
cellulose, chlorine‐magnesium defoliant, soda ash.

 Projects

It’s foreseen to implement 30 projects with value of 291.6 mln. USD.  Main 
projects are:  

1. Construction of Dekhkanabad potash fertilizers plant (200 thousand tons).
2. “Clean Development Mechanism”(CDM) projects at “MAXAM‐Chirchiq” 
OJSC, “Navoiazot” OJSC and  “Ferganaazot” OJSC.
3. Construction of sodium nitrate production at “Ferganaazot” OJSC.
4. 8 projects on modernization and reconstruction of existing facilities.
5. Construction of ammonia (900 Ktons) and urea (1000 Ktons) complex at 
N i t JSC
