WA model Jem Wolfie breaks social media, makes millions

on OnlyFans

The former apprentice chef has more followers than Daniel Ricciardo and is currently the most popular performer on social media platform 'OnlyFans'.

Young kids care about free stuff. Adults care about making money.

And that’s how a Perth fitness model found herself at the global centre of the latest riddle in the world of social media
— how does an influencer transition from being happy with red-carpet invitations or hotel freebies to actually having
a career?

The answer is a new Pay-Per-View form of social media.

Called “OnlyFans”, it lets users get an intimate look at the social media stars they’ve been obsessing over virtually.

Consider it a VIP-only photo and video stream for the most awe-struck.

Subscribers can also directly message the stars and pay for personalised images or videos.

And the biggest celebrity on the site is WA’s Jem Wolfie. The 28-year-old has 2.5 million Instagram followers.

But her real success is a growing stable of viewers on OnlyFans willing to pay a monthly fee to watch her life play out.

“Jem currently has the highest number of fans, with around 10,000 fans paying $15 per month to view her content,”
OnlyFans founder and chief executive Tim Stokely said.

“Because the content is exclusive compared to that on her Instagram, Jem has earned over $2 million since joining in
August.”

Mr Stokely said 60,000 content creators were on OnlyFans and more than seven million registered users.

He claims the platform is growing exponentially. “We are currently on-boarding over 3000 new content creators
every week and have around 1000 users registering every hour,” he told The West Australian.

Like everything on the internet, OnlyFans has its sinister side. The New York Times recently dubbed it “X-rated
content” and the “paywall of porn”.

One content creator told the newspaper that it was “basically ... online go-go dancing”. It has also been compared to a
form of escorting via webcam.

However, not every star on OnlyFans gets naked.

And the profiles mostly promoted by the site are more

likely to be fitness bloggers or chefs.

Wolfie’s publicly available Instagram is filled with racy

posts of her showing off Kardashian curves in barely there
swimsuits.

But that’s no different to millions of other profiles of

young women online.

She started as a fitness blogger, but became popular

because of her love of basketball. Wolfie often poses
holding a ball or on the court.

“I could have always been just a fitness chick but I had to

stand out and be different, plus I was always passionate
about basketball, so that was always going to be a part of
my social media,” she said.

When her basketball videos started to go viral, Atlantic

Records in the US came knocking and Wolfie realised it
was time to put a health food business she had started as a
22-year-old on the backburner.

“Young kids care about free s..., adults care about making Instagram

a living,” she said.

“I wanted to bring more exclusive content to my fans and have them pay for it because I believed my content was of
value, and so many people were getting this content for free for years.”

Wolfie is adamant she does not get naked online.

And she is a professional career woman in every sense of the word — just ask her how much tax she pays.

Her latest business venture is to launch a clothing line called Wolfgang Apparel.

She admits that her fans are mostly men, but that doesn’t worry her. Even the men are admittedly probably not
watching her for the fitness advice.

“People complain and say ‘Where’s the nudity’, but where are you going to go from there — you’ll be in full-blown
porn before you know it,” Wolfie said.

“Anyone who tries to make me think I’m being exploited or objectified is so f…... wrong, that’s not how it is because
I’m empowered and I’m the one making these choices with a strategy in mind.

“I’m going to buy my mum her dream car and I’m going to make sure that my parents are looked after by me
personally for the rest of their lives,” she said.
