Requirements in OSHA
Standards: A Guide
OSHA 316201R
2014
The Occupational Safety and Health Act requires
that employers comply with safety and health
standards promulgated by OSHA or by a state
with an OSHAapproved state plan. This guide is
a quick reference to help you locate and imple
ment the screening and surveillance require
ments of the Federal OSHA standards published
in Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations (29
CFR). This guide provides a general overview of
OSHA requirements. It is not a standard or regu
lation, and it creates no new legal obligations.
For full details of specific compliance require
ments, please consult the appropriate OSHA
standard in the CFR. You can access the medical
surveillance provisions of the OSHA standards
on the Internet at www.osha.gov. Additional as
sistance is available by telephone at 1800321
OSHA (6742).
