Pre-Internship Experience

Fall 2017 Allen Elementary School/ Justice Intermediate School Marion, IN

At Allen, I worked with two classrooms, each with about twenty preschool
students. A lot of the goals I worked on with them were cognitively based,
such as counting, learning letters of the alphabet, and color identification.
I also worked on impulse control, sharing/taking turns, and
communication skills.
At Justice, I worked with a group of adolescents with developmental
disabilities. Some were verbal, while others weren’t. I sometimes did
group sessions, and sometimes did individual sessions. The main goals I
worked on were cognitive based to help reinforce what they were learning
in class, such as months of the year, seasons, and color identification. I
also worked on impulse control, communication skills, and fine and gross
motor abilities.

Spring 2018 Wesleyan Health and Rehab Marion, Indiana

At Wesleyan Health and Rehab, I led a group session with a geriatric

population. It was a very mixed ability group and the members sometimes changed from week to
week, so I had to constantly adjust to what the clients needed on that particular day. The main
goals I worked on were increasing social interactions, memory recall, and fine and gross motor
skills.

Fall 2018 Colonial Oaks Marion, Indiana

At Colonial Oaks, I see individual geriatric clients and work toward their
specific needs. I work with a woman who plays piano very well, and I use that to help her with
memory recall and reminiscence. I also use her preferred music to work on fine and gross motor
skills. Another client prefers country music, so I use country songs to work on similar goals with
him. The clients are not always available at the same time every week, so I have to be prepared
to adjust my schedule on the fly to see people when it is most convenient for them.

Other Experience

June 2013 Hephzibah Ministries Fox Hollow Camp Ground Hephzibah, Georgia

In high school, I worked at a summer camp in Georgia through Hephzibah

Ministries. I was assigned a group of 5-6-year-old boys. I have always enjoyed
working with children, and this experience helped me realize that I had a passion
for helping people. I helped these boys do various crafts and activities (many
including music), create bonds with each other, and grow closer to their
relationship with God. It was a very rewarding experience!
