Preschool Lesson Plan: Fruits and vegetables

Objectives:
1. Students will be able to provide examples of fruits and vegetables.
2. Students will be able to explain how fruits and vegetables help our bodies.
3. Students will be able to illustrate fruits and vegetables.

Lesson Outline:

5 minutes Review Ask students to share what
they enjoy eating. Then ask
them what foods they do
not like to see if they
mention vegetables.

10 minutes Introduction lesson/new Share a story with students


material about your favorite
vegetable and explain why
you enjoy the vegetable.
Then introduce children to
new vegetables and their
benefits. For example, teach
students about how broccoli
helps our bones and carrots
help our hearts stay health.
Review a total of 10
vegetables with students.

30 minutes Guided practice For the guided practice, my


co-teacher and I will break
our students into two
groups to work with them
on recipes. The recipes will
not involve actual food.
Instead, my co-teacher and I
will use illustrations of foods
to show our students how
they can combine foods to
create recipes.
15 minutes Independent practice Students will use their
writing and drawing skills to
create their own recipes
using the vegetables and
fruits we taught them
about. They will show us
how to create fruit or
vegetable salads.
5 minutes Closing Ask students to share what
they have learned using
what they illustrated or
wrote during the
independent practice.
