Modular Representation theory for finite groups: When char(F)| |G|, its representations are not

necessarily semisimple, which makes studying the representations of G more difficult. It would be
interesting to have a project that characterizes the modular representations for various finite groups.
To study this one can for example obtain a modular representation from an ordinary representation
through a reduction process, which then can lead to characterization of the Brauer characters from the
ordinary characters between these two representations.

Finite group representation theory: Knowledge of the simple representations of G (char F=0) allows for
complete characterization of any representation of G. It would be interesting to learn about and
characterize the simple or indecomposable representations for certain groups, such as the symmetric
group. There also seems to be a lot of connections between representations of G and normalizers of p-
subgroups, and it would be interesting to investigate that in more detail.

Representations of (associative) algebras: One idea is to investigate the theory of quiver

representations. A finite dimensional algebra A (where F is algebraically closed) can be associated with
quiver and modules over A can be associated with representations of that quiver, so it would be
interesting to see the interplay with algebra and quiver representations.
