Employment Recruitment Procedure

The employment and recruitment procedure is vital to the success of your mobile
catering ventures. When you have a motivated team of staff it will significantly
contribute to your businesses success, but if you employ even one wrong employee it
can literally destroy your entire operation and business. The following steps are
involved in finding the right staff for your organization:

1. Create job descriptions and specifications for each member of staff you are
going to hire
2. Advertise for these positions in relevant directories
3. Interview potential candidates (either over the phone or in person)
4. Choose those that are most appropriate
5. Have a trial run of the job to determine whether the person you have selected
really is the best person for the job
6. Prepare required employment documents
7. Officially hire employee
8. Provide initial and ongoing training
9. Assess the employee regularly

Create Job Descriptions and Specifications

The first step in the employment recruitment procedure is to create your job
descriptions and specifications. Although these are two very different documents, they
are equally important in your procedure for hiring new staff.

The job specification lists the type of person that you want to hire for that specific job
i.e. their characteristics and personal qualities; whereas the job description lists the
actual tasks that they will be fulfilling such as taking plates or bringing guests their
orders.

The Interview Process

The first few steps in the employment recruitment procedure can be considered the
interview process which includes not only the actual interview itself but also the
advertising, receiving of resumes and the interview. Your interview process should
look something like the following:

1. Advertise for new staff members (all adverts should be approved by the
manager)
2. Everyone applying for a management or full time position should give you a
current resume
3. Use the resumes to create a list of possible employees to interview
4. All possible employees coming for an interview should fill out an application
form
5. Ask the potential employees the interview questions you have set, or
alternately, get them to fill in an interview questionnaire
6. Each applicant should also complete a reference form
7. After each interview fill in a check list to determine whether the applicant is
suitable
8. Phone references of the person you consider to be most suitable
9. Once you have completed all these procedures and are happy with your choice
then call the applicant and offer them the position

Employment Process

Once you have chosen someone to fill the position and they have accepted you will
need to take them through the employment procedure. Your employment procedure
should look similar to the one below:

1. Give person the new employee checklist

2. Give them a staff handbook or training manual/guide
3. Give them a sheet explaining their job description
4. Give them an employment agreement or contract
5. Give them an employee details form to fill in
6. Give them whatever forms are necessary for tax purposes e.g. tax declaration
form

The Following Items should be given to Admin or Human Resources or filed

accordingly:

1. Their employee details form that they have filled in

2. Their resume
3. The answers to their interview questions
4. Any reference forms
5. The application form
6. Employee confirmations declaration
7. The forms required for tax purposes
8. A signed letter of appointment
9. If they are from a foreign country then a copy of their work visa if required
