1. CHICK
LIT
Genre fiction which addresses issues of modern

womanhood, often humorously and light-heartedly. It
typically features a female protagonist whose womanhood
is heavily thematized in the plot

2. FLASH
FICTION
It refers to a largely fictional work of relative brevity. In
terms of length there seems to be some disagreement:
some say that it should have not more than 50 words
while others say that it can have as many as a thousand
words. It goes by different names such as “short short
story, micro fiction, micro- narrative and sudden fiction.

To speculate is to ask the question “what if..?” and
open your mind to an infinite number of possible
answers to that question.
It is a broad genre that encompasses stories that take

place in imaginary worlds a result of one or more “what
if…? Questions.

A. SCIENCE
FICTION
It deals mainly with the impact of actual or imagined science
upon society or individuals. The premise may either be based on
or flatly contradict scientific facts and principles.

When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt
Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies,
the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile
planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international
scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crew mates hatch their own plan
for a daring rescue mission.
David Raskin (Jonny Weston) is a high-school science nerd who dreams of going to MIT.
When he and his friends (Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista) find his late father's plans for a
"temporal displacement device," David can't wait to start tinkering. When they finally
get the device to work, the teenagers jump at the opportunity to manipulate time in
their favor -- but their joy is short-lived when they begin to discover the consequences of
their actions.
CONTEMPORARY
FANTASY
Stories set in our present day world. This could
have magic or magical beings present in our world
or the magic or beings could be leaking into our
world from another. But the main characters would
remain in our world for the story.

Of the three Grace children, Jared (Freddie
Highmore) has always been thought of as the
troublemaker. So when strange things happen
after his family's move to a relative's
dilapidated
estate, sister Mallory (Sarah Bolger), twin
brother Simon and their mother assume that
Jared is behind it all. However, magical
creatures
roam the grounds, and they all want a special
book that Jared has found: a field guide to
fantastic creatures, penned by Arthur
Spiderwick.

At the end of World War II, the Nazis attempt to
open a portal to a paranormal dimension in
order to defeat the Allies, but are only able to
summon a baby demon who is rescued by Allied
forces and dubbed "Hellboy" (Ron Perlman).
Sixty years later, Hellboy serves as an agent in
the Bureau of Paranormal Research and
Defense, where he, aided by Abe Sapien (Doug
Jones), a merman with psychic powers, and Liz
Sherman (Selma Blair), a woman with
pyrokinesis, protects America against dark
forces.

C. DARK
FANTASY
A combination of Fantasy and horror. Vampire,
werewolf, mummies and zombies fit into this
sub- genre.

NATURAL
FICTION
These type of stories remove all elements that fall under
fantasy and horror, and embrace super natural elements that
considered common place in the natural world.

At last, Bella (Kristen Stewart) and
Edward (Robert Pattinson) are getting
married. When Jacob (Taylor Lautner)
finds out that Bella wants to spend her
honeymoon as a human, he is horrified
-- for Edward's passion could
accidentally kill her. Bella does indeed
survive her honeymoon, but a new
complication arises when she discovers
that she's pregnant -- and the child is
growing at an alarming rate. The
pregnancy sets the wolves against Bella
and Edward, but Jacob vows to protect
his friend.

E. SUPER HERO
FICTION
This is a type of Fiction that follows character with

superhuman abilities that come up against dastardly villains
trying to take over the world or may be just a certain city.

F. UTOPIAN
Stories that envision an ideal society, often including a
metaphor for how the choices humanity determines such a
possible reason.

Back to the Future Part II is the
second movie of the Back to
the Future trilogy. Although
strictly not a classic utopian
movie, it has unique comedic
perspective on how people of
the 1980s thought optimistic
future could look like.

G. DYSTOPIAN
Stories that takes place in a futuristic society that is

repressive or controlled, often under the guise of being
perfect. The characters live in a real life- nightmare. These
types of stories tries to get the reader to see the
consequences of a certain ways of life.

It refers to a state or condition in which life is extremely bad.
It shows us the worst possible future consequences of an

issue that we have now.

28 Days Later is British dystopian
horror film starring Cillian Murphy.
Animal rights activists release
infected chimps from laboratory
who starts to attack people. 28
days later, Jim (Cillian Murphy)
wakes up from a coma in deserted
hospital. He tries to find what
happened, only to be attacked by
zombies.

Sometime in the future,
the
polar ice caps have
melted,
and the Earth is entirely
covered with water. The
people who survived are
living in small “floating”
communities and travel
the
seas, in search of
survival.
The mysterious Mariner
(Kevin Costner) aids a girl
and her guardian in
searching
for Dry-land, a mythical
place
I. APOCALYPTIC
Stories in this genre are concerned with the end of the

civilization due to catastrophe. This might come from nuclear
war, pandemics, the return of Christ, technology or general
disasters.

J. POST-
APOCALYPTIC
These stories are set in a civilization after an apocalyptic
event, or perhaps years later. Such a story might also fall
under dystopian category.

After humanity won the war
against zombies, tourists are able
to kill zombies for sport at the
Rezort. However, things go wrong
when the park security fails and
the hunters become the hunted.

The story focuses on a
group of U.S. Marines
attempting to survive after
a training mission against
warfare A.I. goes wrong.

K. ALTERNATE
HISTORY
Any story that messes up with the history of our world.

"Fatherland." It is a movie about Hitler
and how his crimes have been covered
up because he has survived. It is a twist
on real history with plenty of suspense,
murder and interesting plot twists. The
movie had real footage from WWI to
make it more historically realistic. It is
about what would have happened if
Hitler had won the war.

It is a fake documentary that
looks at what it would have been
like if the South won the war. In
the film, Lincoln tries to escape
to Canada but is caught. It is
made up of government films,
old movie footage, films and
commercials. After the South
wins, slavery is restored to the
states, and President Kennedy is
elected but killed.

A literary presentation where the author incorporates
doodle drawings and hand written graphics in place of
traditional font
Drawings enhance the story
They often add humorous elements that would be missing if
illustrations were omitted

The term media text refers to any media product we wish to
examine
and from which we derive meaning value. It could be newspaper
and
magazine articles, comics, films, TV shows, music, performances,
interviews or talks.
Digital media is digitalized content- texts, audio, video graphics-

A form of digital poetry that uses links using
hypertext mark-up. It is a very visual form, and is
related to hypertext fiction and visual arts. The
links
mean that a hypertext poem has no set order, the
poem moving or being generated in response to
the
links that the reader/user chooses.

A web log: a website containing short articles called posts that are
changed regularly. Some blogs are written by one person
containing
their own opinions, interests and experiences, while others are

A particular example of this poem is a tanaga, a type of
Filipino
poem, consisting of four lines with seven syllables each
with
the same rhyme at the end of each line - that is to say a 7-
7-7-7
syllabic verse, with an AABB rhyme scheme. The modern
tanaga still uses the 7777 syllable count, but rhymes range
from dual rhyme forms: AABB, ABAB, ABBA; to freestyle
forms
such as AAAB, BAAA, or ABCD. Tanagas do not have titles
traditionally because the tanaga should speak for itself.

Fiction in which the author self- consciously alludes
to the artificiality or literariness of a work by
parodying or departing from novelistic conventions
and traditional narrative techniques.
A fiction that “self-consciously addresses the
devices
of fiction. It is a fiction that systematically draws
attention to itself as a literary work.

Manga is the Japanese word for comics. It is
used in the English-speaking world as a
generic term for all comic books and graphic
novels originally published in Japan. Manga is
considered an artistic and storytelling style.

Are part of Filipino pop culture. They are a specific
kind of stories in the horror fiction genre. As the
name suggests, a ghost story features a ghost as
one of its characters. Like any story in the horror
fiction genre, a ghost story is meant to scare its
reader.

It refers to any format that uses a combination of frames, words
and pictures to convey meaning and tell a story.c

concerns itself with the issue of marginality. In testimonial
