LESSON PLAN
Day Five/Six/Seven

Lesson: Writing Project Teacher:

Preparations Necessary: • Have packets printed out and ready to go


• Have videos ready to watch
• Have lined paper ready for drafting process

Lesson Content
• Watch the video about persuasive writing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD9arWXIddM

• Pause at ‘Why’

• Circle which option we will do

• Persuade someone to believe what you believe (To play Roblox)

• Pause at ‘How’

• Circle which option we will do

• Write a review

• Pause at ‘Who’

• ‘We picked out who we’re going to present too, so they’ll be the ones you are trying to
convince’

• Pause at ‘Topic’

• Use the sentence stem ‘I think…’ and discuss what the topic will be

• ‘I think you should play Roblox.’

• Fill this out in the packet

• Pause at ‘Audience’

• Explain that this is what we brainstormed on the first day!

• This will be who we are going to convince to play Roblox

• Skip to 1:07 to pause at reasons

• We will discuss reasons why someone should/want to play Roblox

• We will need 4 reasons!

• Draw/write one word in each box for ideas

• Finish with having Justin saying his plan out loud

• You should play Roblox because w,x,y,z

• Watch video about reasons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bbWJKIvl2c

• Listen to what a counter-argument is and that the student understands what it means

• Pause at 0:53 and discuss what the counter-argument is in our case

• ‘You should NOT play Roblox’

• Use STP to read an article about not wanting to play Roblox or why someone should not play
Roblox (maybe a review?)

• I will write my own review/article based on information that I have found on the internet and in
actual articles

• After reading the article, we will spin the negatives into ways you should play (2 of the 4)

• Use STP to read an article about why you should play and add 2 facts to the ideas we already
have

• Once we finish these steps, write at the end “You should play Roblox because w,x,y,z)

• Watch video on writing an introduction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O2FjJ4EoIg

• Pause at question

• Use a sentence starter to write the first sentence of the introduction

• Have you ever…?

• Tell the reader exactly what you want:

• For them to play Roblox

• Finish introduction with the 4 reasons someone should play Roblox

• Work on the body paragraphs

• Make sure to make clear that paragraph 1 is reason 1 and so on

• Start video at 1:20

• Remind the audience what is being asked

• ‘These are the reasons why you should play!’

• Make sure to remember to give the game a rating (out of 5 stars)

• When finished with the packet, go through it, read it, and make sure it sounds good so that we
can start drafting

START DRAFTING

• Depending on the students motivation, make sure to begin drafting

• This can be writing on paper or typing

• Take the packet that was done for the paper and begin with the introduction

• Go through the packet, transferring the information to the draft paper

START EDITING PROCESS

• Teach CUPS editing process using cue card

• Use an example paragraph to model and think aloud through this process

• Use the sheets for the editing process to go through the paper! (with CUPS on it)

• Take the rest of the time to do this and once we fill out the editing sheet

Revision Process

• Teach ARMS for the revision process using cue card

• Use the example paragraph to go through this

• Use the sheets for the revision process to go through the paper again (with ARMS on it)

• Take the rest of the time to have the student revise their work and make changes

• Type the final copy!!

**Let student know that he will be passing this paper out at the beginning on his presentation or at
the end, he can decide!**
