Smithsonian Magazine National Museum Day
brings in over 50 visitors Bulletin Board On September 25 the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum participated in the Smithsonian th are your dues paid? Magazine National Museum day for the 3rd consecutive year. Visitors were treated to Coffee, cookies, sandwiches, and potato salad while viewing the exhibits and watching the remember, the documentary films. Sid Winchester, vehicle preservation director for the CGJA, also gave $10.00 annual dues three visitors from South Georgia a special pleasure of a ride in the WWII DUKW. are payable in june Mr. Kenneth Tucker, ( in photo on the right ) author of The Last Roll Call, was on hand of each year. for a book signing. Kenneth grew up in East Point in the 20’s and 30’s and is a graduate of Carrabelle High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces to become a pilot and had advanced through flight training when his whole class was told there was no need for additional pilots. Kenneth than switched to gunnery school because it was the shortest way “to get to the war and action.” His book details life in Franklin County before the war and his adventures in the military and WWII. The book is available at the Museum.
The CGJ WWII museum is open Monday through Saturday. Admission

Special tour hours are given the Veteran’s Day parades Saturday, by request. Camp Gordon Johnston History and Museum Featured as The Cover
Story In the October, 2010, Issue of Military Officer Magazine With a worldwide circulation of approximately 350,000, the current October issue has featured Camp Gordon Johnston in a three-page article about the camp and the historical preservation efforts of the Camp Gordon Johnston Association. The article was authored by Ms Marilyn Pribus who accompanied the recent Geiger group of writers visiting Franklin County as part of the TDC’s efforts at promoting tourism in our area. Kevin Patton, Manager of Bald Point State Park, and Ms Linda Minichiello, Curator of the CGJ WWII Museum described the extent and size of Camp Gordon Johnston while surviving CGJ veterans, from all over the U.S., told of their training experiences The Camp Gordon Johnston Association is a not for while stationed at the camp.
