Poulenc’s Opera, Dialogues Of The Carmelites

This Dramatic Opera is Set to Premiere in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 25, 2018 -Weber State University (WSU) the Department of Performing Arts
music area (www.weber.edu/music), today announced they will perform the Dialogues of the Carmelites.
Francis Poulenc’s opera is set to premiere in Utah October 25 and run through 27. It will be accompanied
for the first time, with piano and a small orchestral ensemble. The Dialogues of the Carmelites is based on
the true lives and unfortunate deaths of the Carmelites nuns during the French Revolution. The
captivating music and costumes brings their stories to life.

“It was a challenge to portray such a dark time in history, but I was determined to get it just right,” said
Karen Bruestle Head of Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy. “We were blessed with some talented
students that surpassed my expectations to ensure this production would be nothing less than
exceptional,” said Bruestle.

The Dialogues of the Carmelites is set in Paris 1789 during the second French Revolution. The story
follows the Carmelite nuns and their persecution. This tragedy is about an unwavering faith and
perseverance. WSU’s music area Dialogue of the Carmelites will have a cast and crew of 21 students.
The production is intended for a mature audience due to its dramatic content.

“This opportunity has given me confidence, not just in myself but the Weber State University music
area,” said Aubrey Christensen playing Sister Blanche. “I have learned a remarkable amount from my
castmates and our amazing Director,” said Christensen.

This is the first time Dialogue of the Carmelites will be performed in Utah. The production starts at 7:30
p.m. located in the Val A. Browning Center, Allred Theater. Tickets are available at the door, or online
