INTRODUCTION

The Rotator Cuff is a group of four tendons that converge and surround in front, behind and

above the head of the humerus. These tendons are connected individually with very important

muscles that are inserted into the shoulder blade or scapula. When these muscles contract, they

stimulate the tendons of the rotator cuff, causing the movements of elevation, separation and

internal and external rotation. Traumatology calls this injury, commonly, "rotator cuff".

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that are attached to the bones of the shoulder

joint, allowing it to move and keep it stable.

Rotator cuff tendinitis refers to the irritation of these tendons and inflammation of the bursa (a

normally smooth layer) that covers these tendons.

A tear in the rotator cuff occurs when one of the tendons detaches from the bone as a result of an

overload or injury.
