Trouble shoot list SAS-1plus

In this chapter all common malfunctions are described. Read Chapter “Safety” in Service
Manual before attempting any actions.

1. No display
• Check for other operations. Switch instrument on, you should hear the buzzer. Press
3x ENTER and “+”, the drawer should open. If nothing happens, see paragraph 2.
• Remove top cover, see Service Manual: “Removal and replacement of top cover”,
and check during removal if the display cable is connected properly.
• Connect new display. If new display is functioning, the display assy has to be
replaced.
• Otherwise, contact the service department of Creacon Technologies.

2. No power up
• Remove top cover, see Service Manual: “Removal and replacement of top cover” and
disconnect connector 1: mains inlet to main PCB.
• Check for short circuit on the following parts: mains inlet, mains switch, transformer.
Defective parts have to be replaced.
• Check for short circuit on main PCB. Replace if defective. After replacement the
instrument has to be calibrated again, see Service Manual.
• When no defective parts are found, please contact the service department of Creacon
Technologies.

3. No reaction to keypad
• Remove top cover, see Service Manual: “Removal and replacement of top cover”,
and check during removal if the keypad cable is connected properly.
• Connect new keypad. If new keypad is functioning, the keypad has to be replaced.
• Otherwise, contact the service department of Creacon Technologies.

4. No drawer movement
• Check if the drawer is functioning, by pulling the drawer out before switching the
instrument on. If this is the case, refer to paragraph 3.
• Remove top cover, see Service Manual: “Removal and replacement of top cover”.
• Reinsert mains plug, pull out the drawer and switch instrument on.
• When the motor is not running switch off instrument see paragraph 6
• Check if geared belt is moving. If so, the geared belt is loosened from the drawer.
See Service Manual “Assembly / Disassembly” for reattachment.
• Check if both pulleys are OK, both pulleys have to be turning when motor is running.
If not, the setscrew of the front pulley needs to be tightened or the rear pulley needs
to be set in the correct position for tension on the geared belt.
• If the geared belt is off of the pulleys, see Service Manual “Assembly / Disassembly”
for reassembly.

5. No lift movement
• Remove top cover, see Service Manual: “Removal and replacement of top cover”.
• When the lift is in top position, manually lower the lift by turning the spindle.
• Reinsert mains plug and switch instrument on. If there is no lift movement or no
noise, switch off instrument and see paragraph 6.
• If there is noise, but no movement loosen the two hex screws of the sliding rod.
Switch instrument on. If the problem still occurs, please contact the service
department of Creacon Technologies.
• Tighten both hex screws of the sliding rod when the lift is in top position.

6. No motor movement
• Check if both motors are not working, see paragraph 4 or 5. When both motors are
not working, replace main PCB.
• If only one stepper motor is not working this one is defective and has to be replaced,
see Service Manual “Assembly / Disassembly”.

7. No high voltage during separation

• Place dummy load SAS 1 (0035.186) in drawer between + and -. Run method with
the separation problem with maximum 150V in the high voltage step. If during this
step there is a current (press – for 1 second), make sure it is not a user mistake
(loose electrode, dry wicks, etc….).
• Remove top cover, see Service Manual: “Removal and replacement of top cover”.
• Check fuse in secondary winding of transformer. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and
Main PCB.
• Check connection of each electrode post and connector 3 on main PCB separately. If
all connections are OK, replace main PCB.
• If connections are not OK, replace carriage assy, see Service Manual “Assembly /
Disassembly”.

8. No Opto-sensor signal
• Remove top cover, see Service Manual: “Removal and replacement of top cover”.
• Check connection of opto-sensor: for “Tray pos. failure” check connector 13 (rear)
and connector 15 (front), for “lift pos. failure” check connector 14. If possible, improve
connection.
• If connection looks OK, replace defective opto-sensor

9. Temperature failure
• Check resistance of temperature sensor. Resistance should be between 1.8 k and
2.4 k . If not, temperature sensor is defective. Replace Carriage assy. See Service
Manual “Assembly / Disassembly”.
• Start a program with a temperature step of 40 ºC. During temperature step, measure
voltage on connector 8. The voltage should be at least 5V. If this is OK the Peltier is
defective. Replace Carriage assy. See Service Manual “Assembly / Disassembly”.
• If temperature sensor and Peltier are OK, replace Main PCB.
