The Navratri festival is celebrated four times in a year: Vasanta Navratri, Ashadh Navratri,
Sharad Navratri and Magha Navratri. These are further divided into Prakat and Gupt Navaratri.
From the above mentioned Navaratri, Vasanta and Sharad Navratri are Prakat Navaratri; while
Ashadh and Magha Navaratri are called Gupt Navaratri.
Magha Navaratri: Magha Navratri, also referred as Gupta Navratri, is nine days dedicated to
the nine forms of Shakti (Mother Goddess) in the month of Magha (January–February). Magha
Navaratri is observed during the Magha Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon). Magh Navratri
in 2011 starts on February 4 and ends on February 12.
Gupt Navaratri is very powerful and yield quick results, if any one chants either of these
mantras with specific purposes secretly. Rules are simple. A person has to perform a 'Panchopar
Puja' before Goddess Durga and communicate one's wishes and surrender oneself totally. Chant
the mantras at least 108 times before an earthen lamp. Recitations of mantra can be done from
either of these Holy Navaratri days. People whose marriage is delaying must chant related
mantra jaap during Gupt Navratri to get desired results.
