The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has estimated that more than 1 million children are behind bars

Acc. To amnesty international many govts have brazenly broken international law in 2015 in their national
contexts: more than 122 states tortured or otherwise ill-treated people and 30 or more illegally forced refugees to
return to countries where they would be in danger. In at least 19 countries, war crimes or other violations of the
“laws of war” were committed by governments or armed groups.

In December 2014, the Islamist armed group Pakistani Taliban, Tehreek-e-Taliban, attacked a school in Peshawar in

In April, Sabeen Mahmud, a prominent Pakistani social and human rights activist, was shot dead shortly after
hosting an event on Balochistan’s "disappeared people" in Karachi.

In June, Baloch journalist Zafarullah Jatak was gunned down in his home in Balochistan’s capital, Quetta.

The NGO, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, documented a rise in killings of suspects in Karachi during
paramilitary security operations, as 255 people were killed in the first half of 2015.

The Army claimed that over 3,400 militants were killed and at least 21,193 arrested during these operations.

At least 4,308 cases of violence against women and girls were reported for the first six months of 2015.The figure
included 709 cases of murder; 596 of rape and gang rape; 36 of sexual assault; 186 of so-called “honour” crimes;
and 1,020 of kidnapping.
