College Application Narrative

The environment where I have felt the most content is when I am going on a run. When I

am on a run, I feel free and don’t have any sense of stress, anger, or sadness leave my body.

During a run, nothing goes through my mind; all I think about is running.

If I am not having a great day or something significant happens and I need a way to clear

my head or just need to get in a better mood, running always seems to help me. When I go on a

run, the thought of whatever happened to me leaves my mind. Feeling the wind hitting my face

and feeling the ground beneath my feet makes me forget about anything bad going on. Running

has gotten me through bad times, and I think that it will stay this way.

I do not only use running to relieve these emotions from my mind and my body. I also

enjoy running for other reasons. Running can be entertaining when I get to do it with a family

member or a friend because it is a time where I can be active and enjoy spending time with loved

ones. Running by myself is also entertaining. When I run by myself, I usually listen to music

because it calms me down. The type of music I like to listen too is faster pace songs, I like to

listen to the faster pace songs because it gets me to go faster because my steps fall in rhythm to

the beat of the music.

Running has played a great role in my life for the last 5 years. I was first introduced to

running when I was in seventh grade. I signed up for track and field to get in shape, but after

running that year, I fell in love with the activity and the environment I am around when I do it. I

have accomplished goals such as, winning districts, becoming team captain, and just becoming a

better person with running. I became the team captain for cross country; I was also chosen to be

the “Most valuable Player” for the team and have won two events at the district meet, which

qualified me to run at the state meet.

In conclusion, running has helped me cope with certain emotions and it has made me a

better person. Running allows me to release stress and clears my mind to help me get through the

hard times. Running is an activity that I enjoy and will hopefully continue to enjoy throughout

my life. I have achieved goals since I started running, and I am thankful that I have had running

through the last 5 years of my life.
