What is the advantages of the linear over other types of casing?
ANS:
A shorter length of casing string is required, and this results in a significant cost reduction.
The liner is run on drill pipe, and therefore less rig time is required to run the string.
The liner can be rotated during cementing operations. This will significantly improve the mud
displacement process and the quality of the cement job.
What is the length of a joints of casing:?
Ans:
The API divided the ranges to:

What are the differences between Drift diameter and inside diameter? ]
Ans:

Inside Diameter Drift Diameter

the actual I.D. of the casing will vary slightly in the 1-The drift diameter refers to the
manufacturing process. guaranteed minimum I.D.
is used for calculating the volumetric capacity of the 2-used to know the size of the
casing. tools that would pass through the
casing.

For example: if the ID of 9 5/8 in casing = 8.535 in , what 3-Example : Can we use a 8 ½ in
is the volume(in gallons) of 1000 ft height of mud ? bit through 9 5/8” 53.5 lb/ft ?
Ans: Ans: Go to the casing table
 1 below. the drift diameter is 8.379
V  8.5352   1000  7.48  2971GAL . in. then : it is cannot !

Compute collapse pressure for p-110 , 7 5/8 in casing with weight 42.8 lb/ft and wall thickness 0.562in
?
Sol:
dn /t = 13.56762 , by going to table 6 , the value is in the plastic range . then

 F 
PP   Y  1  F2   F3
 dn / t 
From table 5 :
F1 = 3.181 F2= 0.0819 F3 = 2,852
Then ,

Collapse Pressure = 13929 psi

Compute collapse pressure for P-110 , t=0.562 in , OD= 20 in , w= 120 lb/ft ? compare results with q4
( NOTE : this type of casing is not API . it is for class purposes only.
SOL:
Dn/t = 35.58719, then it places on the elastic range
46.95 106
PE 
d n / t d n / t   12
PE = 1102 PSI
This means if two casings are the same grade and the same weight per length but they are in different
diameters, the collapse pressures are different too. The bigger the OD , the less resistance to collapse
pressure. However, the type of the collapse is different. in 20in casing, we need only 1102 psi to create
strain without deformation but it is needed 13900 to make plastic collapse with deformation.
