Children’s Supply Seed

Overview of Issue:

15 Million children in the US are below the poverty threshold. That is about
20% of all children in America and means 1 in 5 children are considered to be living
in poverty (NCCP). Families in poverty continue to grow as they continue to have
children of their own. Some of these children drop out of school to provide for their
own families (commentary on Joe Hill). Once this happens children then aren’t
provided with the proper education that they need in life, or to get a proper job in
the future. If we are serious about our future generation then we need children to
start attending school instead of working a low income job. Unfortunately, these
children may have access to school, but aren’t provided with basic school supplies
to properly keep up in class. The future of these children, in result, grow up without
the education of school that helps provide them to be successful as adults. We are
able to build up their confidence in school, and provide the necessities to these
children so that they have the chance to have a better future.

Mission Statement and Philosophy:

“To provide supplies, inspiration, and encouragement to children in poverty”

We are Children’s Supply Seed, and our main goal is to help children get the
basic necessities for their daily school lives. We need to start looking ahead for
these children, because if we don’t then they could possibly continue to be in
poverty. We need to help children in poverty learn the basic needs of everyday life
for when they live on their own. They should be able to know how to do taxes, bills,
and everyday challenges in the future
We want future children to live their live how they want without the
struggles of daily poverty. We want to be able to help them excel in their school
activities, and more. Being unable to keep up with the class is frustrating, and
difficult, and it isn’t any easier if they don’t have the right tools to do so. Doing this
will help them understand, and to be able to have the same materials as other kids.
All in all, it will boost their confidence, and help them achieve greater tasks in the
future.

Action Plan:

Our immediate plan of action is to provide free school supplies to children in
need near the Los Angeles area, with the money that people, like you, have donated
towards this cause. We plan to target 150 children in need our first year, and try to
increase that number by 100 per year. Our long term plan is to expand Children’s
Supply Seed so that we can create a tutoring center in the near future to further
benefit these kids. We use social media not only to get our message out to people
with our hashtag, #KIDSNEEDSCHOOL, but mainly with our GoFundMe page. This
allows an easier way for people to help our organization. Other organizations that
are also taking action against the issue of child poverty with a similar approach as
us are “Project Backpack” and the “Kids in Need Foundation”. Both of these
organizations focus on distributing school supplies to students of all ages who can’t
afford them. According to the “Kids in Need Foundation’s website”, their goal is to
ensure that every child is prepared to learn, and succeed in the classroom. They do
this by providing school supplies nationally to the students who are most in need
(Kids in Need Foundation).
