Ben was given the following survey about


his personal preferences with regards to
movement and seating in the classroom.
He indicated that in general, he likes to
move throughout the day and choose how
he gets to sit.

This survey depicts Ben’s ability to


demonstrate knowledge about himself.

To further support Ben in meeting this standard, offer him greater opportunities to make choices in the
classroom and at home. This can be as simple as choosing how or where he gets to sit for different activities.

Teacher Interview
In the following interview, Ben’s teacher Q: “How would you describe Ben’s ability to regulate his

with regards to his social-emotional when it comes to emotional regulation. Especially

ability to regulate his own emotions and regards to social-emotional development?”

Additionally, apply positive reinforcement when Ben uses his “inside voice” in order to encourage this behavior.

Ben was asked a series of questions about
himself and his personal preferences,
including favorite color, food, animal, and
sport. He was able to successfully provide
answers to the questions.

This video depicts Ben’s ability to


demonstrate knowledge about himself by
answering questions about his personal
preferences.

To further support Ben in meeting this standard, provide him with opportunities to express his personal
preferences through independent decision-making. Examples could include allowing him to choose what color
shoes to wear or what to eat for lunch.
