HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

A story starts down from the early residents of the brgy about how this place got its
name. Long ago the barangay was covered with thick forest wild animals and birds. One
day while the villages were having their and brave, curious to know what the sound was
left their huts in a hurry with their spears and dogs and proceeded to the direction of
the sound. It was not long before they caught sight of the biggest deer in the world.
They set a strong trap near the south of magsungay creek because they believed that
the deer mustbe thirsty and they anxiously watched the trap. After a while they heard a
faint rushing sound and it grow louder and louder and a few seconds later the biggest
deer in the world was running towards the trap. The villages had a big feast that, since
that time, eople called the place “TANGAB” which means trap in English. In april 26,1962
the Bacolod city council passed an ordinance no. 117, an ordinance creating the barrio
of tangub and its territorial jurisdiction and took effect on the first day of May 1962.

AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT

The Barangay Council is concerned about the environment and with the help of the residents of
Barangay Tangub will work hand in hand to maintain clean and safe air for the future
generation.

WATER AND AQUATIC RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Barangay Tangub has potable and safe drinking water. The main water source and household
uses artesian wells and partly from the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA)

Since Barangay Tangub is partly coastal, the Barangay Council launched a Clean Up Drive and
plant mangroves to protect our shorelines.

DRAINAGE

The poor drainage system and improvement of drainage is the main problem of the residents in
Barangay Tangub. During rainy season, canals overflow which is unhealthy and damages
people’s property.
It is also identified by the City Administrator as one of the flood prone Barangay because of its
location that is near the sea with clogged creeks and low lying areas.

FLOODED AREAS

 Purok Matahum
 Purok Sunflower
 Purok Ramylu amd along Ramylu Drive
 Purok Villa (in front of Barangay Hall)
 Purok United Roadside (portion)
 Purok Greenfield (inner portion in the light bridge)
 Purok Paghidaet

TYPES OF DRAINAGE

 Open canal
 Blind drainage with RC pipes
 Canal with riprap
 No canal

The Barangay Council has yet to update and come up with a Drainage Master Plan thru the
technical assistance of the City Administration.

Although major drainage outlet and canals are being maintained but are not sufficient because
of budgetary constraints. It cannot also be denied that Barangay Tangub is one of the highly
urbanized Barangay of Bacolod City which is progressing very fast with business establishments,
subdivisions, construction activities and its population.

The ultimate goal of the Barangay Council is to have an effective management of liquid waste
disposal and flood control in order to have a healthier Barangay and a better place to live in.

ISSUES:

 One of the flooded Barangays of Bacolod City

 Poor drainage system
 Clogged creeks and esteros
 Creeks not suitable for residential purposes are being given land titles and converted to
residential areas.
 Creeks not indicated in the Subdivision Plan or land title

PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS

 City Administration thru its technical expertise should come up with a concrete drainage
master planning and design
 Identifying construction and rehabilitation of drainage system
 Lack of funds and equipment to de-clog creeks and esteros.
 Referral to Barangay Council prior to approval of subdivision plan to see to it if that area
will not hinder the flow of natural drainage such as creeks
