1. The secon step in the job evaluation is to collect information about each job to be
evaluated
2. The job evaluation is a technique for comparing the demands of jobs in terms of
experience, responsibilities, skills, knowlegde.
3. More complex job evaluation techniques require more information and often the
primary source of this job desriptions, so the more complex the job evaluation
scheme, the more detailed the job description need to be.
4. Of critical importance to the union is the extent, if any, to which the impolyers will be
able to continue operating through the use of supervisory and non-striking personnel
and employees hired to replace the strikers.
5. By joining together in a union, workers had the power to demand fair wages and safe
working conditions.
6. As an employee, you have rights that protect you against health and safety hazards on
job.
7. The performance of motivated employees is high, which results into: increasd
productivity and reduced cost of operations.

1. Employer may still be reluctant to resort to a lockout because of their concern that
denying work to regular employees might hurt the organization’s image.
2. Cross-cultural issues can assail and impact the working of teams but it is well to
remember that, despite culture, most team members have similar objectives in life.
3. As an employee, you have a rights that protect you against health and safety hazards
on the job. You have the right to participate in workplace health and safety issues and
to know about any potential hazards.
4. Managers can be taught how to delegate work to staff, in order to reduce their
workload. Meanwhile, staff can be advised about how best to approach their managers
and when it is appropriate to take the initiative.
5. A small amount of pressure at work is often seen as a good thing. But excessive
pressure can lead to stress, and this in turn can result in bad performance. Stressed
staff are more likely to misuse their work hours or quit their job.
6. The mangemnet and employees are often responsible for the stressful environment in
which they work, the human resources department can play a criticial role in
managing behavior within the workplace.
7. One common problem is that managers are so overworked that they neglect their staff.
Staff are left with nothing to do, and so they become underultilized or inefficient. This
is an opportunity for the HR department to step in and help the departmnet to work as
a team.
8. Many unions are working hard to maintain existing worker benefits, rather than to
increase them. Oher unions are offering retraining for displaced workers.

UNIT 14

1. Unlike a mediator, an arbitrator assume the role of a decision maker and determines what the
settlement between the two parties should be. In other word, arbitrators write a final contract
that the parties must accept.
2. Unions and employers in all types of industries have used mediation and arbitration to help
resolve their bargaining deadlocks.
3. When a union goes on strike, it pickets the employers by placing people at business entrances
to advertise the dispute and to discourage other from entering the premises.
4. A lockout may happen for several reasons. When only part of a trade union votes to strike, the
purpose of a lockout is to put pressure on a union by reducing the number of members who
are able to work.
5. All decisions a manager makes will either positively or negatively affect corporate morale.
Poor morale is the surely indicator of poor motivation.
6. Many organizations choose to engage consultants to manage parts or the entire evaluation
process. These consultants often have acess to the expensive but comprehensive data bases.
7. When negotiations become deadlocked,the emploer’s bargaining power largely rests on being
able to continue operations in the face of a strike or to shut down oprationa entirely.

UNIT 17
1. There are several ways to develop and motivate the employees. Motivation begins with
respect for one another. It is not important that employees like each other but it is
critically important that they respect one another.
2. Meditation is a voluntary process that relies on the communication and persuasive skills
of a mediator to help the parties resolve their differences.
3. Lockout means the temporary closing of a place of employment or the suspension of
work or the refusal by an employer to continue to employ any number of pesons
employed by him.
4. Collective bargaining is a process of negotiations between employers and a group of
employees or representatives of a union aimed at reaching agreements that regulate
working conditions.
5. The collective agreements reached by these negotiations usually set out wage scales,
working hours, training, health and safety, overtime, grievance mechanisms, and rights to
participate in workplace or company affairs.
6. A collective agreement fuctions as a labor contract between an employer and one or more
unions. The parties often refer to the result of the negotiation as a collective bargaining
agreement.
7. Being the smartest, being the brightest, being the hardest; all of these attributes that
worked so well in business in years gone by, now will not push you up the ladder quickly.
8. How good a team player you are and how well you share your knowledge with your
colleagues is the all-important factor in growing youe carrer today.

UNIT 19

1. If you can build a company culture that does not worry about who gets the credit for
something, think about what you could achieve.
2. You will have conflict within the team and as long as this is controlled then it can be
a very healthy element for both the team and the development of the business.
3. Research into high-performing teams shows that each member cares for the
development of his team mates.
4. The appreciattion of each other’s learning and development is key to the success of a
team and the commitment of each member to the other.
5. There are many kinds of levels of culture that affect individual and organizational
behavior.
6. Researcher have reported marked differences among continents and countries based
on certain key dimensions.
7. Each culture is generally reflected by unique language, symbols, and rules.
8. An organization’s culture is reflected by what is valued, the dominant leaderships
styles, the language and symbols, the procedures and routines, and the definitions of
success that make an organization unique.
