Topic- URBAN VOIDS UNPACKED

ABSTACT
The urban fabric of todays towns and cites are changing at a fast
pace. In order to meet the needs of modern society. a new vision how
urban design is perceived is needed. The Urban Voids are avital
component in the context of the built environment. With enormous but
hidden potentials, it has the capacity of becoming the corner stone
of the city of tomorrow.

Aim: to create a concept of how these Urban Voids can be used as a

catalyst for the development of their environment. Combining
analyses with a pragmatic design, this project uses a solid
theoretical background as well as a functional case study, to
conceptualize the unpacking of the potentials of Urban Voids.

Mixing practicality, economic feasibility and creativity, the design

of this project aims to create a realistic understanding of the site
it examines and deliver an interesting and thought stimulating
project, not only in an aesthetic aspect, but also as an inspiration
for the further implementation of Urban Voids within urban design.

The result is made up by a beautiful, atmospheric mental image of

Urban Voids as a catalyst for urban development, combined with
technical information to further the evident feasibility of such a
project.

Up cycling of space

‘We have to relearn to think about space”

The phenomenon of excess in modern city, which can be understood as

waste of space, waste of public realm and waste of discarded
materials is the result of passive actions to agile changes in urban
fabric and societal needs.

Aim- To emphasize the potential of the abundance of waste which

can be reinvigorated through architectural intervention.

Up-cycling space illustrates the idea of residual space being

reactivated which can act as a trigger for social capital and
discarded materials regeneration. It creates a scenario of residual
space reactivation through temporary use and community participation
using low-tech intervention tools. This is an efficient method for
creating long term results with a low input of investment suggesting
an eco- design approach.

Design recommendations will be created after assessing relevant case

studies against set criteria which reveals strength and weakness of
different design approaches defining the most viable reactivation of
residual space

ITs main goal is to deliver proposal of low cost based on the theme
of reduce, re-use and recycle ‘on wheels’.
