3 ways to improve building design/ function

1. Installation of sensor light and increase usage of LED light

Current situation:
 Static incandescent, fluorescent and a few LED lights that turn on all along
operation hours in the gallery and lobby of museum consumed and wasted a
lot of electricity and increase unwanted overhead charges.
 Most of the lighting at indoor of Museum Tuanku Fauziah uses incandescent
and fluorescent light that used up few times more power to produce the same
amount of power created by LED.

Table below shows the comparison between LED, CFL and Incandescent light:

Improvement:
 Installation of motion sensor light in certain historical exhibition and gallery
walkway to create liveliness
 Optimize the installation of LED lights in suitable spaces in museum
Benefits:
 Prevent lights from being left on when there are no visitors
 Conservation of electricity and to reduce utility bills
 As a smarter crime deterrence in burglary and vandalism in museum

2. Control humidity level in indoor floor

Current Situation:
 Although the museum is equipped with sufficient air-conditioning that could
dehumidify and control the temperature indoor, humidistat in air-
conditioning system has a very limited capacity in regulating the humidity level.
 A high humidity level in a museum could cause distortion to the artefacts,
historical exhibition and the comfort level of the visitors
 Water stains on carpet destroyed the aesthetic and appearance
Improvement:
Install waterproof carpet which is usually made of 100% nylon fibre to the internal
floor area that resistance to wet environment to prevent fungus and mould built up
such as spilt water stains, condensation in air and etc.

3. Provide accessibility to disabled visitors

Current Situation:
Lack of facilities to aid in the accessibility of disabled person to visit the museum as
there is no mechanical transportation available from ground floor to first floor.

Improvement:
 Installation of handicapped user-friendly elevator to transport disabled
visitors to the upper floor with the specifications of:

i. Voice prompt system, low-positioned buttons and lowered perimeter handrail

ii. One meter wide automatic sliding door, size should be fit to at least a
wheelchair.
iii. Duration for door opening should be adjustable and lengthen up to 20 seconds
iv. Sensors closing to ensure the safety of the handicapped

 Replace vertical up on upper floor’ spaces to slopes with aluminium handrails

to enable access of wheelchairs and to reduce the risks of tripping of visitors.
