S7L2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to describe how cell structures, cells, tissues, organs,
and organ systems interact to maintain the basic needs of organisms.
a. Develop a model and construct an explanation of how cell structures (specifically the nucleus, cytoplasm,
cell membrane, cell wall, chloroplasts, lysosome, and mitochondria) contribute to the function of the cell as a
system in obtaining nutrients in order to grow, reproduce, make needed materials, and process waste.
(Clarification statement: The intent is for students to demonstrate how the component structures of the cell
interact and work together to allow the cell as a whole to carry out various processes. Additional structures,
beyond those listed, will be addressed in high school Biology.)
1. c. Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to
demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): By having students answer in teams allows students who may need
additional support to be helped by their classmates. As the teacher the times for each question can be
adjusted.
Engagement: When doing Kahoots students are really engaged to compete with each other. The students will
be engaged in the manipulation of technology to further enhance their familiarity with how to operate
technology.
Representation: This lesson allows each student to login with a name to track how well they do. Thus
showing each students’ participation. This allows for class discussions between questions.

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Action and Expression: By using their knowledge of cell parts and their function along with their experiences
throughout the unit students will be able to prepare for the unit test by participating in answering questions
through Kahoot and class discussions between questions.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Leading up to the SRT activity students will complete multiple activities that explore the cell parts and
organelle, including creating a physical model representing the parts of a cell and interactive labs.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):
Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: for this activity students will participate in a
Kahoot activity. They will answer questions and participate in question between the questions. Students will
use laptops, tablets, phones, or other approved devices to access the questions. A main
computer/projector/smartboard is also needed to display the questions to the whole class. This activity
should last the entire 50 minute block with 5 minutes between questions to deeply review the reasoning
behind the questions.
If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
