The Major Chord


The major chord is one of the most commonly used chords in music. It’s
essential that you know how to play a major chord.
Major chords sound happy and vibrant. This chord can be heard ALL over
music, but is specifically used in pop and country music.

The Minor Chord


The minor chord is one of the most popular guitar chords. This chord is the
polar opposite of a major chord.
It is very versatile and can be heard in genres such as:

The Dominant 7th Chord
The dominant 7th chord is used frequently in blues, rock and jazz.
It sounds great, EVERY guitarist should know how to play a dominant 7th
chord.

Top Tip!
Whenever you see a dominant 7th chord on a page, it’s always written with a
number ‘7’ after the chord.
For example, an A dominant 7th chord would be written like this: ‘A7’
The term ‘dominant 7th’ relates back to musical theory.

The Minor 7th Chord
The minor 7th chord is exactly the same as the minor chord.
The only difference is one note, to create a minor 7th chord you add the 7th
degree of the scale.
In layman’s terms, the minor 7th chord is a more advanced version of the
minor chord.
