Engagement: Students will be actively engaged in creating an informative video to create a character using
Twitter from the book The Outsiders. Students will be acting, editing, and adding audio and special effects to
the informative video.

Representation: Students will be able to use high tech and low tech tools in this assignment as well as have
different parts in their group to represent their interests and or if they have learning disabilities.
Action and Expression: Students will actively express their interest in the story by creating an interesting and
engaging informative video for a character twitter that they have created for The Outsiders using IMovie.

Lesson idea implementation: Students will work in groups chosen by the teacher. Each group will choose a
character from The Outsiders and create a twitter account for that character. They will direct message other
characters, tweet the way they think their character would, and create their profile. They will then create a
video explaining the twitter account and why they chose the tweets and direct messages that they did for
that character. Students will first brainstorm ideas for their video as a group and how they will implement
special effects and audio. Students will practice their video and bring in any added props they may wish to
have. They will use IMovie and special effects to make their video engaging and authentic to the character.
Teacher will facilitate as groups work and help and answer questions when students may have them.

Importance of technology: Technology is important in this lesson because it allows students to be engaged
and actively work in their groups while expressing themselves and their creativity.
Inspiration (optional):

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: The videos will not be kept private within the class. Teachers must give
parents and students an internet safety form to read and fill out before using this technology.
Reflective Practice: I feel this activity is a great way to gauge student comprehension of a text as well as be
creative and engaged in the classroom. Students are able to express themselves and their favorite parts of the
story while trying to persuade others by creating an interesting movie trailer.
