Philippine Basic Economics with Taxation and Land Reforms

VISION OF THE UNIVERSITY : The center of excellence and development in research, instruction, production, and extension services for
progressive leadership transcending global technological, business and industry-driven education.
MISSION OF THE UNIVERSITY : Cebu Technological University provides advanced professional and technical instruction for special
purposes, industrial trade, teacher education, agriculture, forestry, engineering, aeronautics and land-
based programs, arts and sciences, health sciences, information technology and other relevant fields of
study. It shall undertake research, production and extension services, and provide progressive
leadership across the areas of specialization for global empowerment.
GOALS OF THE COLLEGE : CAS aims at the integral development of the individual toward fullness as a human being through the
humanistic and scientific studies.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES : The minimum standards for the BSCS, BSIS and BSIT programs are expressed in the following minimum
set of graduate outcomes. The graduate outcomes common to all programs, and those common to
the discipline are further mapped into the expanded graduate outcomes specific to the sub-disciplines of
CS, IS and IT as outlined in Section 6.3.

6.1 Common to all programs in all types of schools

The graduates have the ability to:


a. articulate and discuss the latest developments in the specific field of practice (Philippine Qualifications Framework (POF) level 6
descriptor) (Graduate Outcomes: CS10, IS10, IT13);
b. effectively communicate orally in writing using both English and Filipino (Graduate Outcomes: CS08, IS08, IT10);
c. work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams (PQF level 6 descriptor) (Graduate Outcomes: CS07,
IS07, IT08);
d. act in recognition of professional, social and ethical responsibility (Graduate Outcomes: CS09, IS09, IT12); and
e. preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage” (based on RA 7722).

6.2 Common to the discipline

The graduates of BSCS, BSIS and BSIT must have the ability to:
a. analyze complex problems, and identify and define the computing requirements needed to design an appropriate solution (Graduate
Outcomes:CS02, IS02-03, IT03);
b. apply computing and other knowledge domains to address real-world problems (Graduate Outcomes: CS01, IS01, IT01);
c. design and develop computing solutions using a system-level perspective (Graduate Outcomes: CS03-05, IS04-05, IT05); and
d. utilize modern computing tools (Graduate Outcomes: CS06, IS06, IT07).

COURSE DESCRIPTION : The course presents a general background of economics, concepts, theories, policies, and practice, with
particular reference to Philippine economic experience. It also discusses about the interaction of its
various elements and its effect in general to peoples’ lives. Lastly, it provides information about the
general background of the laws of taxation and land reform.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES : At the end of the semester, the students will be able to:

1. Relate the course to the fulfilment of the mission and vision of Cebu Technological University and the goals of College of Arts and Sciences.
2. Analyze critical studies and discussions of the basic economic principles and processes.
3. Evaluate the economic policies and issues in relation to how these affect the Filipino nation and the lives of the people.
4. Interpret citizen’s economic rights and responsibilities to develop their sense of nationalism and love of country.
5. Synthesize the importance of taxation as means of supporting the government in sustaining its programs and projects as opposed to common
notion on taxation as a burden.
6. Defend the necessity for land reform program as means of state’s pursuit of social justice.
7. Justify the basis of the agrarian laws in economic perspective and evaluate the significance of land reform to the landless poor.
8. Apply the knowledge, skills and values learned, from this subject, in dealing with the present day affairs, issues and problems.
