1. Cables
1.1 Drum Handling
When drum is lifted, cable drums must be lifted by means of suitable lifting tool and lifted drum
should be moved as slowly as possible to other location.

1. Steel bar diameter: 100 ~130mm
2. The length of spreader bar is slightly greater than drum outer width.

For all handling and transportation operations, the following are strictly prohibited.
 Dropping the drum onto the ground
 Moving by rolling the drum
 Transportation of cable drum in a flat position (resting on one flange)
1.2 Inspection on Delivery of Cable Drums
Cable drums must be examined immediately on delivery. Any evidence of damage should be
noted and recorded on receipt paper.

The check point of the cable drums is as follows;


 Trace of breakage to flanges, barrel and wooden lagging etc.
 Water seepage through the protective end caps.
 Condition of fastening steel strip and bolts.
1.3 Storage
Cable drums must be stored indoor or outdoor protected from sunlight in a vertical position,
resting on both flanges on flat, stable ground, and wedged into place to eliminate movement. If
it is necessary to move the drums, they must be handled in the same way (as clause 1) drum

handling. If a partial length is taken off a drum, the end of the length of cable remaining on the
drum must be protected immediately with a sealing cap.

All cable reels should be stored in such a manner allowing easy access for lifting and moving,
away from construction activities, falling or lying objects, sources of high heat, open flames,
chemicals of petroleum products, etc. that may come in contact with the cable and cause
damage. The use of fencing or other barriers to protect cables and reels against damage by
vehicles or other equipment moving about the storage area is highly recommended.
