Universal  Design  for  Learning  (UDL):

Engagement:  Allow  students  to  collaborate,  fuel  their  interests  and  autonomy  by  allowing  students  to  work
in  pairs.

Representa$on:  I  could  extend  this  to  allow  students  to  ac+vate  their  background  knowledge  on  places/
products  they  know  to  try  and  sell  and  present  the  the  assignment  using  graphics  and  anima+on.

Ac$on  and  Expression:  Provide  students  with  op+ons  to  demonstrate  what  they  know;  alterna+ve  video  or
voice  thread.

Lesson  idea  implementa$on:
As  I  address  the  standards,  the  teacher  will  introduce  the  Persuasive  wri+ng  commercial  project  by  first  playing  a  video
which  shows  how  commercials  connect  with  persuasive  wri+ng.  The  teacher  will  then  play  their  personal  example  video
for  the  students  to  get  an  example  of  how  they  will  create  and  what  kind  of  project/video  they  will  make.  Students  will
get  into  groups  of  2  and  work  to  figure  out  and  brainstorm  a  product  or  place  to  visit  that  they  would  like  to  adver+se  in
their  commercial.  Students  must  provide  reasonings  and  examples  for  why  their  product/place  is  best  and  why  people
should  either  buy  the  product  or  travel  to  a  certain  des+na+on.  This  will  help  students  work  on  wri+ng  claims  with  evi-‐
dence  to  prepare  them  for  the  summa+ve  assessment,  which  will  be  wri+ng  a  persuasive  essay.  This  en+re  project  will
take  a  week  for  students  to  brainstorm  a  product/place  and  then  create  a  claim  and  plan  for  their  commercial  and  even-‐
tually  students  will  submit  their  videos  to  the  teacher  and  present  it  to  the  whole  class.  Student  learning  will  be  as-‐
sessed  by  the  content/crea+vity  of  their  video  and  if  students  provide  a  claim  and  sufficient  evidence  and  examples  for
why  their  product/place  is  best.  I  could  extend  student  learning  to  a  higher  learning  level  by  having  students  write  out
their  script  for  the  video  including  their  claims  and  evidence  and  submit  that  as  well  as  their  video.  The  lesson  will  con-‐
clude  with  the  videos  being  presented,  and  then  the  teacher  begins  having  students  brainstorm  what  topic  they  want
their  persuasive  wri+ng  assignment  to  be  over.  Students  will  write  a  5-‐paragraph  persuasive  wri+ng  essay  at  the  conclu-‐
sion  of  the  lesson  as  their  summa+ve  assessment.  Feedback  for  student  work  will  be  through  a  rubric  provided  by  the
teacher  when  she  grades  the  presenta+on  and  video  content.

Importance  of  technology:

Using  mul+media  authoring  tools  are  cri+cal  to  the  project  because  they  help  improve  the  learning  process  and  increase
the  interac+on  between  teachers  and  students.  Lessons  are  made  more  interes+ng  and  engaging  for  students  when
mul+media  authoring  tools  are  used.  The  project  could  be  completed  without  the  technology  technically  by  having  the
students  write  a  script  for  the  commercial,  but  it  would  not  include  all  the  lible  nuances  and  important  +dbits  that  a
video  would  contribute  to  selling  a  place  or  product.

Internet  Safety  and  Student  Privacy:

Some  possible  issues  surrounding  internet  safety  include  ensuring  student  privacy  and  that  students’  iden8ty  and  per-‐
sonal  informa8on  is  not  shared  with  the  general  public.  Teachers  must  always  be  aware  of  guidelines  and  policies  set  by
employers  and  teachers  must  teach  students  about  internet  safety  so  they  are  aware  of  the  policies.  I  could  minimize
risks  as  a  teacher  by  being  knowledgable  on  the  policies,  and  equipping  my  students  with  knowledge  on  privacy  policies
and  making  sure  I  am  constantly  monitoring  students  internet  ac8vity  in  my  classroom.

Reflec$ve  Prac$ce:
I  feel  the  ac8vi8es  I  created  will  impact  students  learning  by  having  students  gain  important  mul8media  and
technology  tools  and  giving  students  an  opportunity  to  be  crea8ve  and  get  hands-‐on  prac8ce  and  examples  of
persuasive  wri8ng  and  elements  to  this  type  of  wri8ng.  To  extend  this  lesson  will  be  to  have  students  com-‐
plete  this  project,  which  will  lead  them  to  wri8ng  their  own  persuasive  essay  with  claims  and  examples  and
reasoning.
