2. In this online activity, my online students will use a simulation on


www.redistrictinggame.org to have an individual experience based upon their unique
choices. Each child’s end result will be different, and I will grade them online by having
them write a paragraph per mission explaining what they learned about the topics in the
simulation.
Online Activity
The teacher will post a lecture video as well as PowerPoint
slides that will elaborate on vocabulary and concepts that will
be seen in this simulation. There will be a discussion thread
with instructions on how to access the simulation and what
they are to do after completing the simulation. The teacher
will be available to respond to any questions through email,
phone, or a separate discussion thread designated for
interaction between teacher and student. Later the teacher
will grade and assess the student’s individual experiences to
determine if they understood the materials and completed the
task at hand.
The students are to finish all 5 missions and post in the
discussion thread. After completing each mission, they will
have to write a paragraph (5+ sentences) describing which
level they chose (basic or advanced), which party they chose
(Republican or Democrat), and any difficulties they had trying
to complete each mission. They will also be asked to explain
what problems they think could happen for those tasked with

drawing district lines in the real world based off what they
experienced in each mission. This means their post should
have five separate paragraphs, one for each mission. They will
not be able to see their fellow students posts until after they
have posted themselves. The students will then be asked to
comment on two of their fellow classmates in 3 to 5 sentences
per comment to add to the discussion. They cannot simply
state that they liked or disliked what their fellow student had
to say. It must be completed by the end of the week.
